sigfreundThere are a few significant facts (or statements, anyway) in what’s posted above:
He discharged the gun himself; it didn’t just fire on its own. The bullet grazed his arm, and therefore, again, it evidently didn’t just go off in his holster as was claimed in another recent incident. It was inside his vehicle, and that raises questions about what he was doing handling the gun then. There are possible good reasons, but that would nevertheless be my first question: Why?

You win the gold star.

steve495The portion of the article that we can see doesn't even say what kind of gun it was.

BuddyChrystI don't even see that the bullet caused the abrasion. An abrasion on the underside of the forearm could've easily been caused by his reaction to the pistol discharging. Loud bang, he quickly draws his arm away, across the sights or holster or baton, radio, whatever.
Really though, what we can see of the article tells us next to nothing.

sigfreundThanks for the rest of the story.
Hopefully more information will come out, but it’s hard to believe that the gun wasn’t fired in the normal way, i.e., by pulling the trigger. After the first shot, a startle reflex could have resulted in the second. But of course it’s more entertaining to imply that the gun itself was at fault.

10-7 leoHe had problems getting the firing pin back in the gun properly.... so much fail in this sentence.
Was he disassembling the pistol, in his cruiser, while on duty? Why?
Having problems reassembling the pistol, did he do a function check before loading/ charging the pistol?
Muzzle sweeping across his body.
Smells fishy to me.

SgtGoldDumbass probably had his finger on the trigger and the forward motion of the gun caused him to fire it, twice.

I've seen it happen with rifles.

Added the important part you left out...
Why the hell would you be detail stripping your duty weapon while on duty when you might get sent to a call where you need it?
I disagree with the Chief’s assessment of this officers proficiency. If he is truly one of the Dept’s best then the whole lot of them ought to get some remedial training ASAP

10-7 leoEven the "investigator's" report is lacking. It still sounds to me like the deputy screwed up and the department will try to place blame on the pistol.

toivoFrom the police report, it sounds to me like he had pulled the "fire control unit" for cleaning, and hadn't been able to get the takedown pin back in properly. (It can be tricky, especially when the gun is brand new.) So he took his
loaded and improperly assembled pistol out in his cruiser and started to mess with it. It went off. Surprise, surprise!

MWCThe gun's name is Christine. It's evil and tried to kill its owner.
