Browning BDA magazines in SIg P220?
Hello,

I am trying to find a unicorn- a .38 Super magazine for my Sig P220.

I am starting to consider buying a heel mag release model and having the mag catch holes milled into the tubes.

However, I was wondering if this would actually work, or if the heel catch mags might be longer or shorter than the 1995 P220 magazines.

Also, was there any difference in magazines between the Browning BDA .38Super [or 9mm] and the Sig P220 .38Super [or 9mm]?

I was assuming that a BDA magazine would work in a Sig P220- as long as the mag catches were milled in the correct spot.

Can anyone give me any pointers?

Thank you

They should work fine. Not terribly hard to find with some effort.

You can mill the holes yourself as long as you are good with a Dremel & file.

The magazines that I have are the same dimensions from '77 to '16 save for the mag catch holes and basepads.

The only P220 that I have seen that wouldn't use standard magazines was a side release .45 Auto from 1985.

There are also some aftermarket magazines for your P220 available if you shop around. Good luck.

Just to confirm, OP, the mag dimensions are the same and milling a mag catch hole is perfectly viable. The gunsmith who verified that for me did say that as a precaution it would be good to have the gun the mags will be used in handy to make sure of fit, but the important part is making sure the hole is located correctly.

Please don't shoot me for being too technical, but this topic could be somewhat clearer if the correct terms are used. ALL P220's have heel release magazines. P220-1 is the model that have side release magazines (know as "American release) I'll duck now!

The .38 Super and the 9mm mags can both be found as made by Triple K.

I haven't tried any Triple K mags with mine, but I think they are the only shop making these after Sig ended their German production.

Lots of people need to duck.
If there is an American pistol with side button magazine catch prior to the 1900 German Luger, I don't know of it.
