If I could get ammo at a decent price, I'd love to get one.

So this shoots the .44 Remington Magnum ammo? The same rimmed ammo as the Model-29 shoots?

How does it do with less powered (powdered Smile ) loads like .44 special? Cycles ok?

Initially the brass was formed by trimming down a .308 NATO case. I guess Starline is producing brass now.

I understand there was also .357 AMP, .44 AMP necked down. I am actually quite intrigued to see if this cartridge would also make a comeback.

I’ll pass as I don’t need to wander down that particular rabbit hole. However, I will eagerly watch any decent videos of people shooting one.

Indeed. As well as the .41 JMP (Jurras Mag Pistol) named after Lee E. Jurras of Super Vel fame.

Jeez guys didn't you see Beverly Hills Cop II?

Every good Detroit street cops knows a .308 case cut down for the Automag when he gets shot at with one in a driveby outside a strip club.

Sheesh.

By all rights I should want one. I am an absolute sucker for 70-80’s “action movie guns.” Might change my tune if I get one in my hands.

Buddy of mines dad had a pair of sequential serial numbered Wildey’s back in the early 90’s. He was liquidating his stash and had us sell them at a gun show. It’s sad to think of now.. I had no idea what they were at the time.

There is no "street price" that I saw, as I didn't see anything available other than directly from Auto Mag:

https://automag.com/

I ordered the "Classic Edition 8.5" for $3795, and paid $275 for the high polish finish, so $4070.

And then I found some ammo on Gunbroker for a little over $2/round.

All in all, an expensive night to be browsing Sigforum.

The AMT Automag III, chambered in M1 Carbine, bore no resemblance to the original Auto Mag Corporation .44 Auto Mag pistol. In fact, all of the later AMT Automag incarnations loosely resembled large 1911 style pistols, trading only on the Auto Mag name. Lacking the allure of the original pistol, it is unlikely any of the later models will see a rerelease.

You are right... they looked much more like a 1911 than a Ruger Mk. Was as a gathering this past Fall where a guy had one... I was drooling

I understand. In the mid-1980's, a buddy of mine had an Automag IV chambered in .45 Winchester Magnum. Of his three .45 Win Mag pistols - Automag, L.A.R. Grizzly & Wildey - the Automag was my favorite.

It's a sexy cool gun, but I realized a few years ago that I've had my .44 magnum itch scratched enough over the years by a succession of Model 29 variants. My .45 Colts are enough revolver for me anymore, and a .45ACP is all the pistol I need.
