Trying to figure out exactly what I have here. Best I can tell it is a model 29-? Has the 8 3/8 barrel and is pinned and recessed. Has 3 screws on the frame. Factory wood grips and wood presentation box came with it as well. Serial # is N150xxxx. Tried to date it using the S&W catalogue but it doesn't seem to be that easy. Any opinions? No it is not for sale.

Looks like it wears Pachmayr Presentation grips. Red ramp front sight, white outline rear. Looks to be well cared for but clearer pics would be more enjoyable. Is you Dads name Harry?

3 screw is for sure 1962 or newer. Notes on N series frames...
N1 – N60,000………….......1970-72

N580,001 – N790,000…...1980
N790,001 – N932,999...…1980-83

The 150XXX suggests your’s is 1972-74.

Pinned & recessed and three frame screws should be a 29-2.

Should be a model and series (number after the dash) under the crane I believe.

Yup, look on the inside of the crane.

You need to be careful of the "rubber" grips. They will cause the gun to "sweat" and often cause rust. They are OK for shooting, but I would not advise storing the gun with them on it.

All info is greatly appreciated. Oddly enough this is the only revolver I own out of many guns. I am going to have to clean it up and put the wood grips back on, or at least remove the rubber ones. The wood grips are much harder on the hands than the rubber, but i will only use the rubber when I take it to the range. Thanks again!!

I owned one of those puppies in the early 60's.
The pacmeyers appear to be an add-on but, other than that, what you have in your hand is a beautiful hand gun and a visible sign of the pride your father has in you.

Don't have many revolvers any more, but used to use some grease inside the rubber grips to prevent rust. I personally preferred to shot the rubber grips than the wood, but that is personal preference.

Carry it and you can walk around and say “go ahead Punk, make my day “

And try to remember if you fire six rounds or only five.

The 29s of old are classic examples of some of the best from S&W. It's the first 44Mag I ever shot.
Some had the snot shot out of them and it's always a good idea to check cylinder gap and any shake.
If they treated it right, as I hope your dad did, it will bring lots of enjoyment for a long time. Just an opinion, try it with 44spcl first.
