P30L slide stop removal - safe?
So I did ask this on an HK forum, but have yet to get a response. As this is my preferred forum, I am hoping someone will have an answer.

So I have had a p30L for awhile. I do not shoot it a ton because due to my grip (I am a lefty) I constantly hold down the ridiculously long/large slide stop lever on the right side preventing last round hold open. I have replaced it with the shorter slide lever version, and while this has helped, it has not completely eliminated the issue. I know I can train for a different grip, but this is my only pistol my grip causes an issue with, so would prefer not to have to adjust my entire grip for just one pistol. My question is, is it safe to simply remove the right side slide lock lever? It does not appear to be structurally important to the function of the pistol, but as I am not 100% on that, I would like to know before doing any damage to the gun or myself. The p30 is the evolved USP correct? And those never had a right side slide lock lever, so it would stand to reason it should be ok, but any insight is greatly appreciated.

I can't answer your actual question mostly because I got hives thinking about it. But I can answer that its pretty easy to just modify the lever to the point that its not really a lever which I have done. I have seen pictures of modifying to the point you can't even think its a lever, but I just made it so its just a nub. Go to HK forum and you can see some older pictures for examples.

Funny enough, my only beef with my P30L is the same thing (my grip often prevents the slide from locking back). To the best of my knowledge, your proposed “modification” is safe to do. This is because retention of the slide stop in the frame has nothing to do with the right-side lever; the slide stop is retained by the upper leg of the trigger return spring. Everything will continue to function as intended, even with the right-side lever removed.

The only consideration you’ll have is that the absence of the right-side lever will result in a small ring-shaped recess/opening in that area of the frame and it’ll be an extra spot for debris to collect. However, even stuffed with dirt/grime/fouling, I don’t see how that would adversely affect proper function/operation of the slide stop lever, or the gun overall.

It’s safe to do. I have the same problem. I just don’t like the way it looks without the lever. I have the flat short one installed now but will probably just chop the lever at some point.

I’ve had a P30L for over 15 years and don’t have any issues with the levers. If fact, I can’t think of a single problem I’ve ever had with the P30. The SRT was a great upgrade on that pistol.
