Always wanted a Mk 25 although I'm not that familiar with the P226 family. I'm looking at one that comes in the LE packaging (includes a third mag). Does the Mk 25 have a chrome-lined barrel? I've heard both yes and no.

Thinking that they all came with the chrome lined barrel when new.

Depends on if some parts swapping came in to play.

MK25 has CL barrel.

M11-A1 had CL barrel, when it first came out. SIG eventually did away with it.

MK25 has chrome lined barrel, phosphate internal coatings, short extractor, and smaller de-cock lever. It does not have the short reset trigger sear found on other P226 models, which is easy to add if desired.

The MK25 has become my favorite sig, especially after installing the GGI short reset sear and their hammer strut. My adult son liked mine so much he purchased one last week and I installed the same GGI parts.

I thought for sure mine came with a short reset trigger but when I checked my data-base it seems I added it.

In retrospect I'm not sure what advantage there is to the phosphate coating is unless you are going to swim with it in the ocean. Mine was my 'walking in the woods gun' but unfortunately I don't do that anymore. On top of that only the lower part is still an MK25. I had CCR do a coating on an Elite slide in 357 Sig.

Right now the non optic ready 226 Legion is $949.00 which is a good 100 bucks cheaper than the MK25 .

Decided to go with the Mk 25 and put one on layaway. It was $959 but taxes brought it up to $1019. That third mag is nice because at my local CAL Ranch store SIG P226 mags are $55 each. I'm sure that shopping around would be advisable.

The third time I took the 4 day defensive handgun class at Frontsight I came with a brand new MK25 that I had never fired. The first day they let one of the instructors fire a few rounds in your pistol to check it. When mine came up I respectfully asked him to let me shoot it since it had never been fired by anyone other than in theory at the factory. he let me.... I put over 600 rounds through it over the next 4 days with out a hitch...

I know it is mostly marketing but I really think Sigs motto for the P226 is not that far off the mark:

"The pistol that set the standard by which all combat handguns are measured"

And what exactly is the point of a chrome-lined barrel in a 9mm handgun?

They just do it to be identical to the SEALs' gun specs, I suppose. No point of calling it the MK25, if you make it differently from the real McCoy.

Rust proofing. SEALS are in saltwater a lot.

Gents,

The MK25/P226 is my "go to" pistol. I sold my P226 Legion after I fitted E2 grips to mine. A wonderful pistol.

I've posted the picture of my 'frankenhamer' MK25 before... still a '25' on the bottom but a 357 Sig Elite on top... and of course the matching laser on the rail... G10 Hogue/Sig grips.

Cool!

Now all you'll need is an MK25 chambered in 9x21. Wink

Regarding chrome-lined handgun barrels, hasn't Beretta been chroming their 92 series barrels forever?

just picked up a LNIB one last week, looking to smooth out and lighten that trigger pull as well as (if possible) install a shorter to reach trigger, can you tell me how much and how long that took?

thanks, shawn

The Gray Guns SRT sear kit can be found here and is $85.00

The Gay Guns custom strut can be found here and is $75.00.

I have put both of these in my classic P series that hadn’t been worked on by Sig or GGI. My triggers are just over 7 lbs DA and break like a glass rod. The SA pull is about 3 1/2 lbs and the reset is super short. I am completely satisfied and would do it again without hesitation. Sig also sells a SRT sear kit, but I have not used it.
