May have a chance to pick up a classic (folded steel slide series) P226 but wanted to hear if anyone has recently sent one in to Sig for service. Any concerns with parts that are no longer made/serviced by Sig?

They do. If I buy an old Sig I immediately ship it back to Sig for the service package. Full inspection, new pins, springs and new night sights for about 200 bucks. $$$ well spent!

They did last year.

I bought a P225 from a member here and sent it to Sig for the SSP. IIRC, it took less than 2 weeks.

Money well spent, IMO.

Does that price include shipping both ways?

Sounds like a good deal.

Pretty sure it is $149 with return shipping you have to get it there. Wait until Father’s Day Sig usually offers this service for like $119 for Father’s Day.

Bottom of that page:

The SIG Service Plan DOES NOT cover:

• Accessories or attachments, non-functional parts, and cosmetic wear

• Repair of any gun that is damaged or malfunctioning as a result of operator or owner negligence such as failure to maintain the pistol in accordance with the owner’s manual, accidental damage, abuse, vandalism, theft, rust, or corrosion

• Service required as a result of alteration or repairs not performed by SIG SAUER Inc.

• Shipping costs for receipt or return of the pistol

• Free SIGLITE Night Sights installation does not include Mosquito, 1911-22, P232 or P230 models

Return shipping is additional. The last time I did it, which was a few years ago, it was $55. Might be more now, don't know.

If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, definitely don't hesitate to send it to Sig (like others have said). It IS a good value (plus you're supporting a professional service of USA labor).

I sent a W. German P226 to them about 3 years ago, and I was definitely impressed: they replaced everything except the sear spring seat pin and the slide components; they cleaned and lubed the gun PROPERLY; they "upgraded" the takedown lever (not expected); and I had the gun back at my door I think 7 calendar days from when I shipped it.

I've been let down a few times over the years by some pitfalls in Sig customer service, but I have absolutely no hesitation recommending the Full Service Package or the slide refinishing service.

Happiness is a warm gun.
