RichardCOh, hell, no.
Inside job?
Is the CMP's FFL at risk?

rat2306I'm sure they meant Remington Rand, not Remington Arms.

YooperSigsAnd the thefts took place from 9-19 until 3-22? Unnoticed for that length of time? One gun at a time or all at once? Something smells bad in Anniston!

GreymannMy quess, one or two at a time. Seems CMP would have a list of who had access to the vault.

SigmundThe Anniston area has a few other dumbasses who stole from the Army depot (see link below). IIRC, the CMP store is not on the depot.

monoblok9/2019 to 3/2022. I'd guess that was the window (of opportunity) the thieves had between two bound book audits. Noticed that it slots conveniently with the world shutting down courtesy of WuFlu for good portion of that time period.

Glynn863As I have posted in several other forums, hopefully some (if not all, optimistically thinking) are the result of clerical errors (transposed or omitted digits). Hopefully CID or others have done FOIAs on all of these to be sure that they were actually in Army storage before transfer and start there for investigating. Also to be sure some weren't sent for destruction, or sent to LE or other programs. JMHO, YMMV.

m.p.driverI knew back in 1991, when they made us turn in the 1911's i should have kept mine, they wouldn't have missed one more

Johnny 3eaglesRight before I retired I was issued a "brand new" depot rebuild Remington Rand 1911.

creedbratton2It's the Army. These are probably in a box at some obscure warehouse. They will find them in 20 years or so.

Glynn863As announced on their forum, CMP is also looking for a new manager for the CMP 1911 Program. Hmmm.
July 29, 2024, 02:03 PM
monoblokEven if the outgoing manager wasn't a culprit who actually took part in stealing the guns, it presumably occurred during their watch. With the disappearance of that many guns, no one in charge at the time is going to survive that and certainly none the underlings that were also there at the time are going to be deemed as suitable replacements. A real eff-up this is.
