batexOpinions needed (P229 vs P228R purchase)
It's been a while since I've posted, but I've been having the itch for a new Sig. So, checked out the LGS today and they had two guns that interest me... One is a non-rail Sig P229 CPO DA/SA in .40; the other is a like new P228R with rail. The P229 has the half-height cocking serrations. Both guns have contrast sights, are in great shape, and both are priced at $600 but very likely could be had for $550. I don't currently own a P228, but not sure I like the rail. Also have lots of other 9mm handguns, but have never had a pistol in .40. I like old school and I assume I could swap in a 357 barrel in the 229?
So, what's the collective thought of the Sig fanatics if I were to spring for one of these beauties? Which is more desirable and is the price decent? Or, should I just save for a P229 legion?
Thanks much,

WARPIG602600 for 228R seems like a good deal. I dont care for rails on the 228/229 either but that doesnt detract from the deal. The 229 is too high. You can get CPO 229's for 450.00

jac1304P229 is way to high..450 to 500 at most.

12131P228R all day long.
But, if you insist on the .40, then save up to get that Legion.

fquicoI am with 12131.
I have a p228 KC and a P228R. both shoot and handle great, but the edge goes to the P228R. It is more accurate and the felt recoil is less pronounced. I don't care for the rail but it is a P228, German with internal extractor and folded slide. Get the P228R, you can always find a used P229 .40 sw w/o rail some other time. Law enforcement is getting rid of their Sig .40s and you may be able to pick up a good or like-new one in weeks or months to come.

soggy_spinoutAs others have voiced, a fair price for the P228R. A bit high for the P229-40. Between the two I know which one is more desirable. But I also know which one
I'd shoot more often, and it ain't the 9mm.

Solid choice!
I'm a bit biased, my first handgun (and still one I carry often) is my triple-proofed P228R.
I could be broke and living on the street and that thing will still be on my hip.
