It's a P229 made and assembled at SIG NH. Not sure exactly what you want to know. It's a P229, so it should be a great pistol.

Back to the thread.

I consider the P229 an exceptional handgun.

Here is mine.

Thanks P-220. It now has the unobtainable Robar NP3 2-tone finish.

How does the 229 slide third from the left have full-height serrations and a short external extractor?

I think that's the .22 conversion slide.

I was reading an article about new Jersey police department have problems with them jamming a lot so I was a bit paranoid lol the pistol looks new asking 450 I figured it was a good deal and was hoping you all would have good feedback . This one has the rail on it So I assume it's a newer model

I see that suit, but its NJ> I am unaware of any evidence that the 229 as a design has issues. And certainly every one I have seen personally does not. So I would have no problem recommending one.

The .22 slide in the first photo was not part of a conversion kit. It was the original slide/barrel on my initial purchase of the 229.

It was me... Doing the SIG math.
(-This is from years ago-)
So what I want to end up with is a basic SIG P229r in both .40 S&W and .22 lr.
I will just use MSRP for the example:

P229r vs P229r Classic .22 + caliber change kits for both

Example #1:
P229r .40 S&W = MSRP: $1068
.22 lr Kit for P229r .40 S&W = MSRP: $285
TOTAL: $1353

Example #2:
P229r Classic .22 = MSRP: $608
.40 S&W X-Change Kit = MSRP: $356
TOTAL: $964

DIFFERENCE: $389
I am NOT complaining, but I AM wondering.

P.S.: I bought example #2, BUT my local dealer was selling the Classic .22 for $449.99 and the SIG coupon for the .40 S&W X-Change Kit was $299.99 shipped!
That’s an additional $214 savings, so my price was: $750 for the 2-caliber set.

Sounds like a good deal.

When the 229 first appeared back in the early 90’s, I seem to recall there were feeding issues with lighter loads; we had several FTF malfunctions with Federal Power-Shok 155 gr. hollow points IIRC. We switched to 180’s and it cleared right up.

First thing I'd buy for that 40cal P229 is a 357sig barrel.
You may never go back to 40cal.

Good luck...1LL

And a 9mm barrel from Bar sto, 3 cal goodness and yes mostly do 357 sig because someone has to. Though 9mm from all steel frame is a hoot to shoot as well.

As others have pointed out over the years, the first thing to suspect when a law enforcement agency claims that a particular handgun is unreliable is that they want to switch to a different gun—usually a Glock—but they must have a “good” reason to present to the elected officials who control the budgets. I have fired well over 20,000 rounds with P229s and I recall one stoppage: a failure to chamber a “boutique” ammunition manufacturer’s 357 SIG round whose bullet was seated out too far.

It’s one of my favorite pistols next to my Sphinx’s and P7. I’ve had several and currently have a brand new triple matching serial number no rail model with a new .22 conversion kit and a bunch of SRT mags in addition to regular mags and accessories. The .40 has conversions out on the market (I’m guessing secondary) for 9 and .357 Sig. Hang on to it. They may be cheap now but may go up in value one day not to mention an excellent shooter.

I carried a P229 in .40 on duty for 7 years. I've fired thousands of rounds of various weights and bullet profiles through it without a single problem. I was in some hairy situations with that gun, and never once worried that it wouldn't work if I needed it. The only issue I've ever had was with some reloads that don't like the short throat of my 9mm Barsto conversion barrel. In factory config, that gun is absolutely flawless.

Mine has an SRT kit, and the reset is phenomenal. The DA pull, while a bit long, is not excessively heavy and very smooth. My agency transitioned to the P320 a few years back, and while I like that gun and understand the reasoning behind the change, I still miss the old P229 sometimes. Most of us bought ours back from the PD when they retired them, and a number of our guys still stay qualified on theirs and carry them off-duty.

For $450, you're not going to go wrong with a P229.
