X Compact Frame + Carry Slide + Subcompact mags?
Based upon what I read here, can I take a Carry slide and bbl in .357 Sig and mate to a X Compact Frame and use 10 round subcompact mags in .40/.357 to make this setup work correctly?? Since I have the Carry slide in Coyote and the X Compact is now being offered in FDE, this has me chomping at the bit!

Thanks all.

Compact mags, not subcompact.

The "carry" slide is a compact slide; the difference between a "carry" and a "compact" is the length of the grip, rather than the slide. A carry grip in 9mm 17 rounds, a compact is 15 rounds. In .357 Sig, the carry grip magazine is 15 rounds, the compact is 13 rounds.

The x-compact grip frame is a compact length frame, and takes a compact magazine.

The x-compact grip frame is designed to take the sub-compact slide. The subcompact slide will fit on the x-compact grip frame with the frame extending to the end of the slide. You can also put a compact slide (same as the carry slide) on the x-compact frame: the frame will not extend to the end of the slide. I have several pistols like this presently. They look and function just fine.

They will take a 15 round or 13 round 357 Sig magazine. The subcompact magazine will not work.

I have a .357 compact slide on the x-compact frame, and it runs just fine with a .357 compact 13 round magazine. You can also use the full size magazine, which will protrude slightly from the bottom of the grip.

You'll need to ensure that any 13 round .357 compact magazines that you use in the x-grip have either the square peg for the baseplate retainer (newer style baseplates) or have the "dog ears" on the baseplate clipped off or ground down, to fit in the mag well for the x-compact grip.

Gentlemen, thanks to you both for the education. Just need to doublecheck the mags I have at home before I order the Coyote X Compact grip frame.

I’m also not sure the older basepads will work with the x compact frame.

If you're using the full size ("carry" length) magazines, it doesn't matter what baseplate is on the mag because the magazine sticks far enough out of the x-compact grip that the baseplate isn't an issue.

If you're using compact length magazines, then the new-style baseplate with the square peg will work, as it has the thinner dog-ears along the sides of the mag, extending upward from the baseplate.

If you're using the compact length magazines, then the older style baseplate will work, but the dog ears need to be clipped off or filed back. It's very easy to remove them with a pair of end nippers. It has no affect on the function or security of the baseplate or magazine, and they work fine after that. I've been running older style magazines with the dogears clipped off the basepads, in steel competitions, without any problem. They get ejected and dropped constantly, with and without rounds in them, and there have been no baseplate issues whatsoever.

With the older style mag dog ears clipped off, the magazine is perfectly stable, feeds and functions just fine, and works like the newer style mag.

Thanks all. I went ahead and ordered 3 new 13 round compact mags (.357 Sig) along with the X Compact Coyote frame module.
