What's the 9mm 1911 market like?

Thanks. Those LASD overruns are definitely at a fire sale price. Too bad they weren’t made available in the States.

There are the Springfield armory EMP series (3" & 4"). I had th EMP 4" CCC which was great in the hand. Smaller built of course.

I carry a Commander Gun Crafter Induatry in 9mm. Dan Wesson is also a good brand, I heard. Kimber is a hit and miss. But I would consider it. It all depend on your budget.

I recently purchased a DW Specialist in 9mm. The quality of the gun is fantastic. Tack driver accuracy, and will run any factory ammo I put in it. Could not be more pleased with it.

My safety could be more positive too. Perhaps I'll try to make it more positive in clicking on and off. Mine has been 100% since break-in. Shoot to POA too. I think my Dan Wesson Valkyrie is better though.

I've got some time on a SA RO Operator railed 1911 9mm. It's an excellent 9mm 1911. Reliable with all mags tried so far, no recoil, and accurate.
It's heavy, but it's thin, and the controls are perfectly tuned. For a production gun, I think SA has found the right recipe for 1911 9mms. The main thing I would change would be to add a checkered front strap, add a S&A magwell, and get some different sights. Never been a fan of Novak sights. Just my two cents there...

I have a ton of time with a STI Trojan 1911 9mm. Astonishingly accurate. Perhaps the most accurate handgun I've ever fired. No complaints except that at round 700, the extractor went out of tune. When I contacted STI, they told me to watch a YouTube video to re-tune the extractor. Not on a $1000 pistol. I sold it because I'm stubborn that way. I've heard that STI's CS is now questionable, so perhaps that's what happened to me. It's my understanding that the new CEO is really trying to turn things around down there, so you may want to check out an STI Trojan. It was worth the price tag for me, at least initially.

If I had to pick between the two, all things being equal, the overall build quality of the STI Trojan appears to be a step above the SA RO Operator; however, STI can't touch SA's CS. So, I'd probably go with the SA RO Operator for that reason.

I've never fired a Commander 1911 9mm, so I can't speak to that. Good luck!

Odd, with my 9mm SR1911 the Ruger Magazines present countless issues with double feed failures. However slip in a Wilson Combat 500-9 and it becomes 100% reliable. At present I have 8 of these magazines set aside for range use and I'll stop buying more when I get to 10. BTW, keep two reserved for defense and loaded with 147 grain Federal HST.

Huge plus for 9mm in the 1911 format is very light recoil that makes it real easy to introduce a new shooter to the 1911. Another big plus is if you reload, 9mm bullets typically cost about 60% of the cost for 230 grain 45 ACP bullets. Means that even today you can load up a box of 50 9mm using 125 grain bullets for about 7 dollars.

STI has some pretty good CS. I just sent my Costa Carry Comp back to them, the rep answered every question I had via email and the gun made it back in about a week and a half.
