I wanted a S&W 28-2 a few years ago and never got around to making that happen. Last night, I fixed that problem. I probably overpaid by a couple of hundred, but I really don't care. I don't think I'd be likely to find another one in this condition. GB pictures will have to suffice for now (although they are MUCH better than anything I could take). Hopefully it's on the way to my FFL today or tomorrow and I can carve out some time to get to the range after New Year's.

Beautiful.
I remember when McBride’s Guns in Austin had a cardboard box on the countertop full of those, your choice, $179. Back when the Texas Department of Public Safety switched to semi-autos in the early 1980s. I bought a couple on my meager UT Student/Employee income.

Sweet! Congrats on your score.

Wow that's a nice one!

Dang! You did good on that purchase. 4" 28-2 is some S&W goodness. And I've said it before the "Highway Patrolman" roll mark is so cool. Well done sir.

That thing looks like it never came out of the box before you got it. Absolutely beautiful!

Heavens to Betsey it's a gem. Not even a line on its cylinder.

Quick follow up...
I got a call from my FFL today while I was driving home. I stopped by on my way and was happy with my quick look in the store. Once I got home, I went over it really well. I'm not sure that it has ever been fired. It looks BRAND NEW. I'm happy to have finally landed a 28, especially one in this condition. It's looking like a range trip will have to wait for a few weeks at least, but it will get there soon. This message has been edited. Last edited by: bryanZ06, January 01, 2025 07:46 AM

Glad it looks as good in-hand as it did from the pics - perfect example of the breed. Congratulations and Happy New Year!

That was not a couple hundred too much...
Those last few condition points from 95% to 100% get real expensive, real fast.
It was about the same price as a new 4" 627.

Now you can get the red dot sight adapter, put a C-More optic on the barrel, ditch the wooden grips for some rubber ones, and have it refinished in a tactical matte black. Oh, and don't forget to have the cylinder machined for moon clips and ...

I've owned several 28s, but never in that nice of condition. I know you will enjoy it and thank you for the photos. Always good to see a classic Smith and Wesson.

I had that one on my watch list. Congrats on picking up a really nice package. You did not pay too much at all. The 4" HP's are selling really well these days. I've got my share, but I'm looking to add a 5 screw to my collection.

Very cool score. That thing looks new. No cycling ring on the cylinder or anything. Just gorgeous. Congrats.

That's as pretty a M28 as I've ever seen...always preferred the satin bluing on them over the high gloss M27. Congrats on the find and don't sweat the $. You'll soon forget the outlay as you enjoy your 'grail' gun. I traded one off five decades ago, that was in similar condition, that still haunts me....Best regards, Rod
