Walked into a new local gun dealer and found this beauty that followed me home. It was built in 1987 and looks like it was used very little. I got three 12 round magazines with it, two of which probably went with their model 469’s. All the mags seem to function as they should.
This thing is very smooth and has nice da/sa trigger pulls. Need to get to the range with it.
The Pachmayr grips are what actually caught my eye at the dealer. They feel great and are in almost new condition. At first they seemed to have a gap around the edges but after I got home I was able to snap them into place and they fit as designed now. For a spare set of grip panels, I do have some “re-popped” ones coming from Robertson Trading Post, as we speak. They are a great company to do business with and I have bought many grips and magazines from them in the past.
There was a recall on some of the early models of the 669’s but mine is out of the recall range.
Let me know what you think.

I’ve always liked the 469/669, I used to see them on a vendor’s table at the local gun show, they were very reasonably priced. Alas, I never had the funds. Yours is a very nice looking example.

I carried a 669 for off-duty/backup for two or three years and really liked it. The long first double-action trigger pull is a little long (longer than a P226/P228), but manageable.

A 6906 slide will fit just fine and you get a Novak style sight. I found a new slide and barrel on EBAY for less than Novak wanted for th sight and mounting.

Nice gun - a 669 was my first Smith DA/SA 9mm and I carried it off duty for a few years before getting a 6906. Looking at yours, in great condition, kind of makes me want one again. They are great guns!
One guy I worked with was about 5'4" tall and about 3' wide, all muscle. He carried a 669 on each ankle as a backup(s)! He wasn't going to chase anyone anyway. If he got ahold of someone, they weren't going anywhere though.

Bought mine at a fun show. Came with one magazine but found a place online that sells repro mags. I am having it milled for a Novak rear sight and a fiber front sight.

That Phillips head screw on the safety--can't believe it was standard but I see images online with it.

I know. However they were not the only company who used a Phillips head screw. Check out the grip screws on the CZ 75 Compact and PCR.
I checked this screw and found I could not tighten it more than it was. I won’t try loosening it just in case the prior owner used thread lock on it already.
Several years ago, I was really into Gen 3 S&W’s. I remember that I learned to spot Gen 2 models on the net, by that screw.

I have had both a 649 and the 669. Sweet little guns ended up trading them off for something else though. Can’t keep them all.
I seem to remember having issues with new factory mags. The new mags were ambi cut for the mag release. Would load the mags to capacity and while shooting the mags would stop feeding.
Finally figured out the mag spring was catching on the extra and not being used ambi mag release cut. Don’t remember at what round it would stop at but seems like it was after shooting 4-5rds from the mags.
The original mags that I had that were only cut for the single or one side cut never had the issue.
Seems as though the new mags were made for a newer model of S&W that slips my mind right now. I may also be calling the ambi or duel cut wrong also. Instead of it being an ambi cut it might be that the newer models design requires the duel cut. But for some reason I seem to remember the newer model has the capability of the mag release being changed from left to right unlike the 449/669 where they cannot be changed. I never had experience with the newer smith to know for sure.
Just look for older true 449/669 mags if you need more would be my recommendation.

Magazine info
I just received two new mags(they look original), from the Keep Shooting vendor. They have only one cut out for the mag holding system and seem to function correctly (their part number MAGSW69).
I also ordered a 15 round mag for a model 59 from that company (their # WM-0014). At first I had trouble inserting it into the gun plus it would not hold open the slide with an empty mag.
Just for grins, I switched followers with the silver colored mag that came with my gun. They both seem to function correctly now. The new 15 round model 59 mag had an orange follower that was shaped a little different than my 12 round mag followers. This 15 round follower now works correctly in the 12 round magazine body.
Looking forward to the range to try this out with live fire.

I still have my 469 from 1988. We were cool as hell carrying it off-duty.
