How does the m11a1 shoot? I recently picked up a 228 and quickly remembered how much I like the gun. I'd like to make the 228 my carry piece but I'm worried about rust due to how much I sweat. That made me think about the m11a1.

Just think of the M11A1 as a P229.

Oh wait, it is a P229. Even SIG is finally calling it a P229. Wink

Same IMO, my 228 and M11A1 are both excellent guns though the M11A1 has the short reset.

To me, the P228 feels lighter with slightly more recoil than the M11-A1. (The difference is not so much as to make me favor either gun over the other.)

Personally, I'd carry the M11-A1 or a P229 in 9mm rather than a P228. Reliability wise, both are great, but they don't make the P228 anymore, so they aren't quite as replaceable as an M11-A1 or P229 in 9mm.

I bought, then sold a P229 because it was not as perfectly balanced with a poorer trigger than my all German P228.

How do you measure a perfect balance? I cant tell a difference bewteen my German made 228 and any of my 229s. I will say my Legion 229 is supior in feel to my 228.

The weight difference is imperceptible to me personally. Performance is also similar, so....

This may be blasphemy, but I like my M11-A1 better. For me it's the trigger. SRT with AEP is far superior to stock 228. So not a super fair comparison. I do hate the short reach trigger which I forgot to get swapped when I sent her in for AEP. Guess I got to figure out how to do that now, can't imagine it's hard to do though.

I've had both. I had 2 228's that were made around 1995 or so. They were great guns. One was almost new and the other barely used. I switched over to the m11 because of parts replacement.
The 228 is not made and something as simple as the extractor becomes more difficult to find.
The m11 has a stainless slide and all of the parts are readily availablle and will be for many years to come. The recoil is very nice. E2 grips, if you like them. 15 plus round capacity availability. Stainless slide with coated internals equals corrosion resistance.
I think the 228 was slightly lighter but the extra weight of the 11 helps with recoil. The short reset trigger is great once I got used to it. I switched out to a full size trigger and trijicon sights because I wanted 8/8 vs 8/6. I probably should have Sig change the front sight to an 8 when I did the aep. The aep was good but I don't think I would do it again.

Indulged P229 vs gen-u-wine P228. Very close to me, though the SRT generally makes for a sweeter trigger though the resultant creep that almost always comes with the SRT is annoying if staging the pull is your thing. Having a SS slide can be a good thing, though the l-o-n-g extractor still looks fugly as sin on a classic SIG, and that obnoxious logo...inthufferable (Looney Toons' Sylvester accent optional). That's my op/ed. YMMV of course.

My personal opinion. There is no comparison. I own 6 228s. And I just traded away my only 229. I prefer the folded carbon steel slide. To me it feels perfect. I have 2 JK date coded 228s that have the absolute best da/sa out of the box actions I've ever come across in 30 years of shooting. I traded into an M-11a1 when they first came out and I didn't like it. But. That's just me.

LOL. I bought a p228 after my p229. Liked it so much I bought another p228, so I would not be tempted to carry the first p228.

But then a two tone p228 came by. And then the Swiss montage p228. And then came another minty p228, so I would feel even less guilty about carrying the second p228.

Where the heck did I leave that p229 anyways? Hmmm...

That reminds me ... Where the heck did I leave that p229 anyways? Hmmm...

Judging by your handle, I can't see why you would say such a thing! Wink

Sell the P229 upper and buy a P228 upper, and you have another P228. Hmmm...

Or, better yet, if you had 2 P229s like I did, ..... Big Grin

The top one was a legacy slide P229. It is now a P228 (slide was CPII Dusk by CCR).
The bottom one was a M11-A1. It is now a P228 (slide was completely built and nickel plated by SIG Custom Shop).
