Your thread title says "Glock 458" and the post says 48n".

Are you considering a Glock 45 or 48?

If you're looking at the 48:

I think the 43X/48 MOS are something of a miss if you don't intend to put a light (one of the couple that work with them) on the rail. The factory optic cut on the 43X and 48 is a true Shield RMS cut, which means four recoil posts, and no direct compatibility with the much more popular Holosun 407K/507K and essentially no compatibility with the Trijicon RMRcc.

To mount a 407K/507K (or the newly released EPS Carry) on a 43X or 48 MOS, you'll need to modify your factory optic cut or use a plate (C&H offers one). The plate will raise the optic to where the stock height sights are just barely visible. I personally like this, but others may not.

Holster compatibility is also an issue with the railed MOS frames.

So, unless you're going to put a TLR-7sub or Surefire XSC on it, you're probably better off buying the standard 48 and having the slide milled. Maple Leaf Firearms has been popular on here with a 2-3 week turnaround and fair pricing.

So these are kinda oranges and apples. The XR920 is Shadow Systems take on the G45 (G19 top, G17 bottom). The G48 is different, slimmer width, different magazine capacity (ish with extensions, etc. but). Shadow Systems doesn't have a G48 analog.

I love my two SS pistols (a MR920L and a DR920D) but I bought them knowing that Glock didn't make anything like either (the 920L is a 17 top, 19 bottom, and the DP is a compensated G34 length gun). I also really like the MOS incorporated into the SS guns, as well as all their other features, especially for the money paid.

If you like the feel of the 48 and expect the SS gun to replicate that, it won't.

Can't speak for the SS, have the Glock 48 and a G43, ended up merging the two into my own G43X and picked up the shield arms mags.

JMO the best carry is the one you WILL carry, figure out which fits your lifestyle, clothing, and comfort. Then that should be your carry.

Carried the 43 and then the 43x for a while, down here it gets hot, and t-shirts, polo shirts and shorts are the norm.

Ended up getting the Ruger LCP 380 Max, overall it fits right into a pocket holster and I don't hesitate to take it regardless of what I'm wearing.

Did you mean CR920? I have one and have shot both. If you are looking for something small I like the SS CR920 as it gives you good cap in a G43 size but you can use the extended to reach 43x size if you want more rounds and grip. Best of both worlds, uses many Glock components and the company seems to stand behind their product. Mine has been accurate and reliable outside of one FTFeed during the breakin period which is why I'm wiling to be ok with it. I don't think either is a bad option.

I do love my G43/48/43x guns. You can’t go wrong. All good Glock things and more ergonomic.

How has your CR920 reliability been? I have seen several reviews with reliability problems, but SS says they have fixed it with new barrels.
For the reasons you described, I think the CR920 format should have been what Glock did, ie make a G43xShort — more hand filling grip than the G43 with ~ 7-8 rounds, and ability to use G43x/G48 (or Shield) mags.
But the CR920 gives you more capacity with their proprietary non coated, steel mags.
Interested in hearing more about your experience with the CR920 (for OP and me).

I have three SS handguns. A CR920, MR920 and a MR920L. All three are awesome guns imo. My thoughts on the folks that complain about reliability issues is that they have not put the 200rds through them first to allow them to loosen up a touch. My CR920 has had no hiccups, but SS is sending out new barrels for free so I suppose I’ll accept. Customer support is very good with them and they are quick to respond.

I have been happy with mine and the butt barrels they are replacing are quite distinct as the hood has two scallops and they will replace it for free. Their explanation of it made sense to me. Its been quite accurate (routine cloverleafs) and reliable, I carried it recently on a cross country trip after putting a good amount of rounds through it.

I think it is great if you like a smaller gun and fits a good niche for checking most of the boxes. It can be G43 small but with more rounds or hover just below G19 territory. It shoots well and I do not feel the slim frame fatigue I feel with the other 1" wide guns. I like that I can put it in a pocket or run it on my hip. It gives me a lot of options. I appreciate the light rail and RDS mount and the mount is well thought out with a spacer and probably the beefiest screws you can use for something this small.

I prefer my G19 for primary carry as I have tons of time on it and I shoot it a bit better due to it filling my hand more but this is not really why you buy a g43/CR920/365 etc. I also prefer strongside hip and the CR hits me in a weird spot when I carry there. Just an anatomy thing, maybe I have to bounce it around a lot more to see whats comfortable. It works well appendix and is comfortable there but I don't seem to be able to get past the mental issues and annoyance that come with that style for it to be worth the trade off to me. That again isn't the guns fault. I can get away with the G19 with my routine clothing and size so I don't typically want something smaller but I think this is a great gun for when I do. I do wonder if some of what is driving that bias is a combination of experience with it, somewhat less restrictions on where I can carry and currently an open emitter which I am not fond of. I have an eps carry on order which would solve my gripe with the lint magnet currently mounted.

I'm going to keep playing with it though, who knows? I like it better than my 365xl (though I love the modularity of that gun), and my hellcat which has been pretty good as well. Its nice to have options. If you have any specific questions please let me know.
