I shot a full Steel Challenge match on Saturday over 200 rounds with my 229 legion using s mix of 229-1 mags and 20 round 226 9mm mags.
I had no jams fail to load dropped mags or jams.
This is something I have been trying to do since I bought my 229 legion.
The 226 mags fit the 229 a bit loose but the 229-1 mags not the 226 due to being wider.
I also found out NOT all 9MM mag carriers will take the 229-1 mags even if adjusted fully out.
The mags jam.
SIG branded mage carries do but the Israeli ASR holders do not.
And yet my SIG mag carriers are made in Israel.
Have a safe day. Smile

Whether the 229 mag is of the original design or of the 229-1 style is irrelevant, because neither one will ever work in a P226. Wink

I would not know that, my last 229 was .40 it was just the 229 9mm and 226 9mm I was interested in because I had read articles about it.
This was just my insight.
Thank you.

I was just pointing out the nature of the P229 mag in the P226, even if you use the non-229-1 mag. Would never work, just like the G19 mag would never work in the G17. Too short. So, trying the 229-1 mag in the P226 is moot. Smile

Not sure what is allowed for competition, but on the subject of P229/6 mag interchangeability, a shout-out to Matrix Precision This is how I get P226 mags to fit flush and work reliably with a P229 slide/barrel: P2296 frame.

Yes. Although if you're at all interested, you might reach out to Matrix. They're responsive, not to mention just really great folks. Not sure if they can make a SAO frame, but you never know. I might go in on a couple if they can!
