The Great Equalizer |
I am very very fond of the Performance Center offerings. You opened up a can-o-worms with this thread. We are going to have more folks out looking for these now The little Pocket Rockets are very cool So is my 640 Carry Comp There are other carry guns like the F-comp and the L-comp I love the 8 shot, carbon steel, Model 27 revolvers. They were offered up in six different configurations over the years. Here is one of each configuration. Then there are the Heritage revolvers which combine some old fashioned styling with modern day metallurgy and machining Then there are the original 8 shot Model 627s that were introduced to us back in 1996. Those were soon followed by some Scandium framed Model 327s The original PDR/UDR revolvers How about some 625 in 45 LC? Then we get into some of the auto loaders like these chambered for 356TSW Then there is the 845. Two seperate runs of this magnificent auto were produced How about a Shorty 357? Then there is the well known Shorty 45 and tlesser known 45 Recon And we must not forget the 952 And yet, there are still more that I want ------------------------------------------------------------------ NRA Benefactor . . . Leave the gun. Take the cannoli. |
No pix to post but I have two 1911s and and 945 from the Performance Center. Works of art. Some here say the PC is not the same anymore and it’s just a marketing scam. When did this happen? What are we getting with a PC label today?

Upgraded sights, triggers, slide slots, and things of that nature. It’s not a marketing scam. S&W charges accordingly. The guns don’t cost what they used to and the high end autos that required extensive hand fitting like the 952 and 945, no longer exist. The 1911 is still around, but it’s basically the same gun as the standard production models with some slide slots, a larger extractor, and a lighter trigger. That said, it’s also priced about $1000 less than the PC1911 built in the old Performance Center shop was a decade ago. A marketing scam would be charging the same price (or more with inflation). Hope this helps...

This thread has given me a want and appreciation for revolvers that I've never had before. Thank you all for the beautiful pictures. (And a sarcastic thanks for making me spend more money )

Great photos/pistols but depressing in a way. Smith and Wesson made some great stuff during the Golden Age. They actually catered to shooters, and designed and manufactured pistols and revolvers for real world shooting. Now, it's an occasional cool design, manufactured with marginal quality, and cranked out to the maximum number of units in the minimal amount of time. I guess that's progress

I bought a S&W 586 L-Comp a few months ago and it’s an amazing piece of hardware. Performance Center is the real deal. .357 Magnum _______________ Mind. Over. Matter.

No problem The 952 is a work of art, in my opinion.

I passed on a very nice 952-2 a few years ago because I thought Cabela's was gouging on the price. Boy, did that turn out to be the wrong move. It's amazing what these guns are going for today.

I would Looooooove to have a 952 longslide. I'm quite happy with the one I do have, they are wonderful guns. My next revolver will be one of those stubby 627s, I’ve wanted one of those for years, if I ever saw one in a shop I’d probably just buy it.
