$4,000 or so for the Sig MCX Spear.
$2,250 for the ammo, which is $2.45 per round
--------
$6,250 so far

Add a bipod, sling, quality scope with ED glass, mount, mags....yeah, $10k is possible.

This overall cost isn't an outlier for a precision rifle, for a shooter who uses factory match ammo. But I serious doubt this is match-grade ammo.

$2.45/round is the bulk "discount" price for FMJ? So defensive ammo will be, what, $10 per trigger pull?

That "old fashioned/outdated" 5.56/.308 rifle is looking a lot better in this light, huh?

But I'm sure there are plenty of folks out there with too much disposable income who would be happy to pay it, just to show off their MCX Spear on Youtube/Tiktok/Instagram. After all, you can't put a price on social media clout, amiright?

Match / hunting / defense 6.8x51 ammo will certainly cost more than FMJ. 50% higher? 100% higher? Who knows.

Yep. And this will show the difference between the riflemen and those who just buy & own rifles. Said MCX Spear dudes will likely show a 3-round group at 50 yards (the only good one of the 10 groups they shot), then proclaim it's uber-reliable, uber-accurate at many hundreds of yards, and the best rifle/ammo combo since the invention of smokeless powder.

Hold on to those Mesozoic Era AR-15s and AR-10s. Luddite rifles might still work.

I wonder if the all steel Federal case costs less than the bimetal Sig case.

It should also be noted, this isn’t FMJ, it’s solid copper.

I’m guessing that some people don’t have a lot of experience buying the expensive stuff.

The last 200 rounds of 308 Winchester ammunition I bought cost $409.15 with tax and shipping, or ~$2.05 per round. And be thankful you don’t have to buy ammo for your 375 H&H Magnum rifle. The least expensive variety listed on Ammoseek costs $2.70 a round (before tax and shipping, of course), or virtually the same as what this does. But there’s more: The lowest price listed for a 20-round box of 378 Weatherby Magnum is $125.17, or $6.26(!) for each pull of the trigger.

The prices of specialty ammo, like everything else, have gone up in recent times.

6.0/94.0

I can tell at sight a Chassepot rifle from a javelin.

Nope. It's a rifle for knocking holes in Level IV plate armor.

God only knows what the final retail cost on that optic is gonna be.

I seriously can't wait for the aftermarket to start playing with this, though.

There is a guy on another board who necked up some 6.8 cases to 7.62 for the purpose of souping up his .308. Whee!

I await the wildcatters getting hold of some 7mm BC.
