RichardC2026: IF you sometimes carry a .22LR handgun, what's your current choice for self defense ammo?
It might make a difference whether you're using a revolver or semi-auto.

armoredI don't, but if I did, I would chose the heaviest, solid bullet.
Its all about penetration.
I would also test it to make sure it feeds and fires reliably.

pedropcolaYikes. I, like most of us I suspect, have carried a 22 at times. Usually if I carry one it is for critters. If it is for self defense my carry ammo wouldn’t be based on hp or solid it would be reliability. So on that alone I’m picking mini mags which in my experience are the most likely to light off. Mind you I don’t buy fancy expensive stuff so I have no idea if Eley and RWS or whatever is crazy reliable.
Clearly a malfunction in a Beretta Bobcat can be a chore under zero pressure. Reliability. That’s my thing in 22’s.

GustoferI haven't carried a 22LR, but I do, at times, carry a 22mag revolver. Can't remember what ammo I have for it, but that is one nasty little round. I've seen the damage it can do first hand.

Orive 8Only time I carried a .22lr was back in the mid 80s. Had an Iver Johnson TP22 and a Walther TPH 22LR. Both of them were carried with CCI Stingers.

stiabI carry one daily, with another in vehcile as backup. Alternating CCI Stingers and Federal Punch, every other round.
