sourdough44I’m not suggesting a change, just comments about unloading the gun when stored. I guess it depends on how long and under what conditions, security. Yes, in my safe at home guns are unloaded, of course I check when they come out.
Just saying, the very act of loading & unloading many guns increases the chance of a discharge, however slight. Yes, there may be reasons when it’s called for. Again, much depends on the particulars of where & how long absent.
For ammo I’d look at 130-140 grain with bullet on the firmer side.
As a slight aside, I bought some lighter .357” jacketed bullets on clearance a while back. These have a VERY wide ‘trash can’ style open front. I loaded a few but didn’t extensively test them. I think the front would peel open quickly then the solid base would continue on.
I also got a bunch of older Speer 145 grain jacketed soft point bullets at an estate deal, hundreds. I think they are also a contender with 38s and 357 loads.

SgtGoldFull wadcutters are a good round because they work at lower velocties but that are the most difficult round to reload. I prefer the 135gr Speer Gold Dot short barrel load.
