HST1, HST2 and HST3 are still in production. HST4 was discontinued in 2015, at the latest.
…
Target Sports is now showing the 147 grain HST +P with the part number P9HST4G. The following is in their description detail:
“The P9HST4G is an exclusive Target Sports USA SKU based on the P9HST4 design, packaged and distributed exclusively through Target Sports USA, with available quantities in 50-round boxes and 500-round cases tailored for individual buyers and bulk purchasers.”
The specs appear to be the same as the old P9HST4; 1,050 fps and 360 ft·lbs of energy.
I have some on order, and will confirm the details upon delivery.
newtoSig765 said he received his last week, but didn’t explicitly confirm it was the 147 +P. It certainly seems like this is the case.
Para, I’d be happy to send you a couple of boxes if you’d like. Let me know by email if you want.

Yes, it was the 147gr +P, with the "G" part number. Thanks for your research. I did notice when I opened the package that the individual boxes are not marked "Law Enforcement" like their 124gr +P product, but checking the specs came up with the same data. I don't think that description detail you quoted was there when I looked.
I don't know if it's a good thing or not, that Target has this exclusive. It may get dropped from production again, and I only picked up a few hundred rounds!

Performance testing the HST 147 grain +P in a variety of barrel lengths.
Unsurprisingly excellent performance. Federal should bring this round back into regular production.
The P9HST4G is an exclusive Target Sports USA SKU, offering the same HST terminal design with packaging and distribution tailored to Target Sports USA customers.

Para, thanks very much for posting that video! I haven't had time to watch the whole thing yet, but I will this evening when things calm down.

I made the time to watch the whole video, and I agree it's a great self-defense round, but I'm disappointed that the +P version is not significantly better than the standard-pressure version. Steve did say the recoil difference was noticeable.
Other tests of Federal 147gr standard and the older +P show less penetration than the 18" average in this video, IIRC, so I wonder if there was some testing discrepancy, but that wouldn't explain the two loads being so close in performance.
I'll still get more when I can, and as far as I'm concerned, this is my new SD round.

Very consistent velocities, and optimal penetration

Para, thanks for posting this update. I have a pretty wild assortment of 9mm ammo, from the 115gr +P+ to mid-weight +P by Speer and Federal, to this 147gr +P Federal. The additional weight of the 147gr seems to be proving itself to be the best.

P9HST2
As an aside, several folks have the standard pressure P9HST2 for sale, less money than the +P. Ammoseek.com is your friend, just do a search. Target Sports has the P9HST4 +p for .70/round, and the P9HST2 for only .57/round.

I guess I'm still in shock over the ammo prices a few years ago, so $.70/round for SD ammo is good for now.
Having said that, the performance difference between the standard pressure and the +P isn't that great, making $.57/round pretty attractive.

Federal really did a good job on the HST in my opinion. I have carried it for years. The 147+P is interesting. I wonder how much speed they left on the table if any before getting into +P+ territory.
This seems like it would be a good candidate for a 2-3” 9mm CCW revolver.
I would love to see velocity numbers from a current production SP101. I’m setting one up with a DAO hammer and this load looks like it might be that gun’s loads. 9mm does good with short barrels and the cylinder does funny things to velocity.
My primary carry is a 4” (plus depending on season) Gloc with HST 124 gr +P. Light by current standards but you actually get some extra from the +P with the 4” or longer barrels. HST is worth the price.
Didn’t Federal have a recent LE load that was a 147 JHP with the cavity filled? There was an over run that sold out fast.

I'm not aware of any Federal HP load that has a filled cavity. But you might be thinking of the G2 Gold Dot from Speer, Federal's sister company, which does.
