Surefire SOCOM 7.62 RC2... But on a 5.56?
I recently got to take my Surefire SOCOM 7.62 RC-2 home, and had lots of fun with it on my SCAR-17.

And then I look over at my sad, poor AR-15.

And I started thinking...

I like the Surefire muzzle brake that is on my SCAR-17 that is the attachment point for the suppressor.

And my old AR only has an old school flash-hider.

And .30 is bigger than .223.

And the 5.56 version of the Surefire muzzle brake will mount the 7.62 suppressor...

So... I put a 5.56 Surefire muzzle brake on my AR. Smile

Any reason not to put the 7.62 can on the AR?

I have used a 7.62 RC2 on my 223 AR15s for years.

A 223 RC2 on a 223 bore rifle likely will be a couple dB quieter than the 7.62 RC2, but most people won't be able to discern the difference. The 7.62 RC2 on a 223 AR15 definitely produces less back pressure on a DI system -- this is one of the primary reasons I use the 7.62 RC across multiple rifles.

I recently received my second 7.62 RC2. It will also spend more time on 223 bore rifles than 308 bore rifles.

Awesome - thanks, Fritz. I was hoping lower back-pressure would be the case. Before I started on this endeavor, my internettin' made it look like this was perfectly doable. Since my AR is just a run-o-the-mill 16" Rock River from about fifteen years ago, the less fiddlin' I'd have to do with it, the better.

I use my Elite Iron .30 cal can on .223 guns more than .30 cal stuff. The muzzle devices are similar to yours, the can fits both sizes. Pretty handy, just need a couple more.
