Ronin, I think it all comes down to what you want to do with it. A k can would be silly for long range precision shooting but really smart for just taking the edge off a small carbine. What guns and what are you planning on doing with them?

Not doubting any info here, I’ve heard about key-mo issues but I have no idea where the failure point is. Does anyone have any information on it specifically?

Sorry for the thread drift

I’m comparatively inexperienced compared to most here but I have learned a few things on the 4 suppressors I have.

1) .22 is very easy to suppress and it seems like most cans are very effective - I have a dead air mask and silencerco sparrow in .22 and both are movie quiet with subsonic ammo (mind you I use specific CCI Suppressor Max ammo to ensure they are really subsonic - the regular 1050 fps subsonic labeled ammo would often go supersonic out of my bolt action rifle in winter).

2) .556 cans - even good ones are really more for minimizing annoyance to lane neighbors in indoor ranges. It definitely reduces the report but does NOT make the gun hearing safe.

3) back pressure and gas are real issues for rifles/PCCs. This is especially noticeable if you shoot long guns lefty like I do (right handed but strongly left eye dominant). My 5.56 can is not a low back pressure can (Dead Air Sierra 5) and it blows a lot of gas. I can live with it because I have a left handed upper on my AR but still not ideal. I got a huxwrx flow-through suppressor for my Kuna 9mm which I can’t move the ejection port to the left side and it still makes a good amount of gas. I can live with it but it is a factor. Mags get filthy too.

I’m still learning so paying attention to this thread.

I’m not 100% happy with my current choices - the Sierra 5 is a bit gassy and the Huxwrx Flow 9K isn’t as quiet as I’d like. I’m actually wondering if there is something going on with the direct thread adapter I put on it that is somehow making it louder than it should be,

Way back in this thread I asked if you wanted advise on the tradeoffs to consider as you shop (like the P220Smudge discussion of taper mounts) or just go buy this and be happy. Now if its the former just write a contract with P220Smudge on what exactly you want and he will provide a detailed analysis of the options Smile. 3d printing is changing this situation at an unbelivable rate but so what, you have to buy when its time to buy. The suppressor you have now is the one you can use. But here is my list of just go buy this and be happy:
.22 ==> get a mask. be totally happy. Rugged Occulus same thing. 3D printed ones are coming (B&T Tiger comes to mind) but until we sort out the cleaning mess on .22lr for sealed suppressors I'm not ready yet.
9mm. Get a PTR Vent2 if you can source one. if the price makes you have hives then get a dead air majove 9. and if that makes you still panic get a rugged obsidian 9.
problem solved. run 3 lug on the pcc's and a booster on the pistol.
5.56 toughest one. I'd get a B&T XH556 if I was buying for myself. Get a taper mount and move on (see P220Smudge post on this I concur). My second choice based on personal experience would be Ventum 556.

Any of those and you will be happy and satisfied. Stand by for other lists and alternatives from others.

OK personal experience with lots and lots of suppressors and thousands of rounds. You will ABSOLUTELY be happy with these two. Quick reminder on the PCC where you should use trilug the mojave is p series and not hub. The 5.56 world is a bit more complicated because there are so many more tradeoffs. Maybe if you give a bit more details of what's actually the most important to you and what kind of guns we are trying to suppress a bunch of us can make better suggestions than my generic 'get this'. I've got (quick guess 20 5.56 suppressors) so I've a pretty good idea what are the the tradeoffs.

no idea what that means Big Grin. Is hub direct thread? the silencer central rep said that trilug is old tech and prone to baffle strikes? is that not true?

as far as the ar can goes. Not really sure what my parameters are. Mostly off a bench at the range but I would like keep it mostly on my 11.5 inch pistol w/ brace

HUB is the thread pattern for attachments. 1.375 x 24 (Bravo) is HUB.
3 lug is still a common QD attachment.

Tri lug is old tech, but it works. I have seen people say that it’s more prone to baffle strikes, but I’m not seeing it personally.

This is obviously just a dataset, not an end-all/be-all but it’s an interesting one. Suppressor failures on the NFA subreddit tracked over the last few years, 358 of them so far. Of the attachment methods, tri lug doesn’t show up very often on that list. I’d have to look at it on my desktop to be sure, but it looks like it may be the least represented on the list so far. Perusing, I’m seeing a weld failure listed as the reason for one of the five I’ve found so far, and another guy who used it for .300BO on another. A quote from the thread I got the link from: “Some of these are hilarious lol. Handload 308 supers through a 9mm can with a trilug, live round detonate inside the can (???)”

Have a look:

https://docs.google.com/spread...JCTcG8b_Xno/htmlview

My opinion? Tri lug is a really good, reliable attachment method for fixed barrel hosts in pistol calibers and people saying they’re prone to baffle strikes are repeating Fuddlore. That you heard that from someone involved in suppressor sales is curious to me, but I’ve talked with two suppressor manufacturers who outright recommend it, one of them being Ecco Machine who, until sales exploded, made a very good living off of making a variety of mounts and fixing destroyed suppressors.

P220Smudge as usual rescues me from writing poorly. The issue at hand is that the Mojave does not use any of the more common suppressor threads, it uses the historical DA Pseries threads. DA gives you direct thread adapters (you don't want those), Keymo (you definately don't want that), 3 lug (I think you do want that based on experience for a PCC), and xeno (very acceptable overall but not my first choice in this application).
The adapter industry makes almost anything and you can convert pseries to lots of other stuff and then use that QD style but on this particular suppressor it doesn't work very well due to diameter differences involved and the stacking. Thus my recommendation for trilug, which is what I use.

I posted a link to the big online retailer for all things uptics that got me caught in the moderation queue. Short version, Kaw Valley Precision Mach tri lug mount is the best deal going. Mine has been flawless for over a year of somewhere between 4k and 5k rounds. If you use the code "Merica" at O Planet, you can get one dropped to $65, shipped if you're willing to risk them. Otherwise, the going rate seems to be about $80.

Happy to help! I've also got two of their muzzle devices, and they've been just fine. If you're not going to spend the money on a torque wrench fitting for the tri lug attachment and opt to use an adjustable wrench instead to tighten the muzzle devices, I recommend using some bicycle inner tube on the muzzle device itself, and maybe a layer of scrap cardboard around that before putting the wrench on them. Mine work fine, but I put some marks on them I could have avoided if I hadn't rushed.

are you looking for muzzle devices or the trilug for the suppressor side?

I'm assuming both since he said adapter first and then "both pieces." My second reply was only about the muzzle devices, but I was recommending the mount as well, just to be clear.
