CitadelGalil SAR build
Question for the group, I am doing a form 1 for a Galil parts build. First time doing a Form One on a build and not a pre existing gun, any pointers for doing the E File form 1? I have roughed out the form on ATF website, Just want to know if there are any quirks I need to be aware of. Thanks for any and all pointers and suggestions. JF

Dwill104What receiver are you using? Is it an existing receiver manufactured by someone else and you’re just putting a parts kit on it, or is it a 80% receiver you made yourself?

CitadelTortort built receiver.

Dwill104If the receiver has manufacturer’s markings (model, serial number, etc.) then you simply use those on the form 1. Figure out the barrel length and OAL, and you’re good to go. Or was there another question you had?

Creeping_DeathIf the model engraved on the receiver does not auto-fill on the Form 1, you can manually enter it but I suggest then taking pictures of the markings. The Reviewer may have to see those pictures in order to verify the model being made prior to approving. I was not the first person to make a HK 51k, but I had to send pictures to the Reviewer verifying what was engraved already on the receiver.

P220 SmudgeI strongly suggest never ever using any of the auto-populated models that come up in that window. They’re not all correct model names, that is just stuff people have entered, some of them incorrectly, and you can get a denial for the spelling being off or a dash or a space where there is none or vice-versa. Why the ATF would allow such a thing to be possible in the first place, and then not fix such a known issue in the second is anyone’s guess. “Why would I get a denial for selecting something they let me select as an option in a drop-down menu on
their own website?” you might ask. Asking the real questions, indeed, but it happens to many all the same.
Only ever type in what’s actually engraved on the gun is my advice.

Dwill104I believe that if you don’t use the drop down menus and type in instead, it will automatically go to “pending research”, which causes a delay. I use the drop downs, and have never had an issue, but I do scroll through them until I find what exactly matches what’s on the receiver. So far, it’s been there. I would only manually type in something if they don’t already have an exact match.

P220 SmudgeI've never had that happen to me. Regardless, OP should enter exactly what's engraved on that receiver and know that it's possible to select something in those boxes that could get him a denial is the main point.

nhracecraftSend/upload pics of all the engravings (Model, S/N, Importer/Manufacturer info, etc and as P220 Smudge indicates, enter EXACTLY what's engraved on the receiver. The pics will eliminate any question at the NFA Branch and ensure no issues/delays in processing your Form 1, especially if you've got an uncommon receiver you're making into an NFA Firearm.
Also, unless they've changed the eForms system, the S/N field will only accept alpha-numeric characters and will not allow you to enter any spaces, or dashes that may appear in the S/N. Just go with it and enter the characters only, in the order that they appear.

Expert308When I did an eForm 1 a few months ago for an SBR it specifically asked for a photo of the receiver's engravings. Is that something new?

No. Every one I've done I have took a photo of the receiver serial number side and uploaded it.

They have always asked. It has never actually been required. If you have something new or a lesser-known manufacturer, an examiner may ask for pictures or deny you for not providing them, but if you're building something that's a known quantity, you don't have to give them shit. In OP's case, it's one place I would make an exception and probably provide them pics of the engravings on the front end.
