When they drop the cost to zero in January, would it be best to transfer my cans to a trust or just leave them like they are. No one in the family uses my cans-it’s just me. The teen might go to the range 1a year with me and I’m there with the can and a copy of the stamp.

I know when I die the person who inherits them can file a form and not have to pay the cost for the stamp. Thats going away..so no biggie

I don’t know about the exact upsides for you, but I plan to do it with my individual-filed cans after the new year. There’s now now cost to have it all simplified, no multiple forms - you name the beneficiary on your trust and it’s done.

Or add a codicil to your will that bequeath the cans to your trust.

Since a trust is a legal entity it can be the inheritor.

I did this will all my personally-owned (i.e., pre-trust recognition) taxed NFA items.

I just submitted 3 Form 1 (Individual) yesterday to avoid the rush in 2026.

However, I also considering doing what MikeinNC is thinking of doing. I am thinking of transferring all of my NFA items in a Trust, with my son and wife as beneficiaries will be a lot easier for them when I pass. As supposed to having them file a different form for each item to take ownership of the items.
