Grease or anti-seize? Login/Join

Hey all-

What do you use on your direct thread cans? Do you prep the barrel threads with anti-seize or high temperature grease?

I have a titanium can threading onto a 22/45 pistol.

If anti-sieze, copper? Nickel? Something else?

Bruce

On non moving parts, where taking it off eventually is your concern I’d definitely use a tiny bit of never seize.

If I was being anal I’d use the silver as it’s a little more geared toward fine threads, but the heat application is close between the two and at the end of the day it won’t matter either way.

Any concerns with chemical reactions with the titanium? I was reading something about copper being no good.

Absent any other information, I was going to use Slip 2000 Extreme Weapons Grease because no Teflon and the temperature rating is very high.

Never seize actually protects titanium threads in most cases.

Only concern is using non aluminum-based never seize on aluminum.

We used to use anti-seize on titanium parts on the bleach plant of paper mills. Return a year later after continuous use and nothing of note.

The Nickel stuff has a higher temperature rating than the Copper. Wink

For a .22? I’ve never bothered. There’s just not enough heat or carbon going through them that I’m horribly concerned about it and I’ve never had a .22 can get stuck before.

just to be a bit contrarian, I have. I always use a bit of antiseize on literally every set of threads involving a suppressor.

Super Lube EP grease is what I use on direct thread hosts.

Gem Tech QDA22 4 lug mount if you want to time indexed baffle to multiple hosts.

I happen to like this grease and use this for a number of applications. But this isn't one of them, its pretty low temperature compared to any high temp anti sieze (like 475 versus 2400F).
Of course depending on your use case that might not matter, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

that's a perfectly good choice. And I use it often. But when you get tired of the nickle stuff migrating everywhere (which it does) you might consider this as a good option as its white and doesn't seem to get all over everything near it.
