vthokyAmmo for suppressed 5.56?
Simple question, I suppose… if you’re shooting 5.56 suppressed, what ammo are you using? Anything in particular
because you’re shooting suppressed, or “I use the same ammo whether suppressed or not”?

gpbst3I use the same ammo. I have an 11.5" sbr and it already hurts the balistics of the 556. If you used subsonic with a SBR I think it render it a useless cartridge.

Dwill104Same, just normal ammo. Subsonic 5.56 is rare, expensive, and gives up way too much performance to be really practical. Just accept that it’s going to be supersonic.

KSGMIf overall low signature is a priority: something with low flash. I have 73gr Hornady Critical Defense for this purpose. It has no flash with most silencers and barrel lengths, and is advertised as having good terminal performance at lower velocities (for those with shorter barrels). It is also very accurate, for a bullet that prioritizes expansion.

P220 SmudgeI don’t feed my AR’s with the can in mind, really. Range day or action match of some sort? PMC X-TAC M193, or Fiocchi Range Dynamics 55gr. I have some 75 and 77gr stuff I want to start messing with, but you know what? They don’t sound appreciably different, and that isn’t the point for me with these guns anyways. A suppressor on a 5.56 is about blast and concussion mitigation more than anything else for me these days. Basically, they all do that, and you can pick what else they do that’s important to you, but you should be wearing ear protection anyways, and once you do, they kind of all sound the same unless you’re not the shooter, and then it isn’t your problem anyway.
9mm or .22? Totally different considerations - I want it to cycle and it want it to be as quiet as possible.

ibandaFor 5.56 same ammo. My normal range ammo order is to buy a case of PMC X- TAC 55 grain from SG Ammo and it's shipped to my doorstep a day or two later. I always shoot 5.56 with hearing protection.

vthokyThanks, all. Just what I needed to know.
