I'm looking to update as my cans are old though still useful. Contrary to my work usage I think I have a good idea of what I want for my own personal cans. I'll list the requirements and guns they will most likely be used on. I currently have an OPS inc 12th (.30), a SWR Trident (9) and a Thompson Machine Zephyr XL(22). If the manufacturer has a MIL/LE deal that's a plus but in the grand scheme of things its not a deal breaker for performance. I would like a can primarily for my various rifles. For me I think I rank abilities as 1. Sound suppression and tone 2. Weight 3. Length 4. Price Guns B&T APC300 Sig 553LB 16" AR Steyr Aug (not the best host) AR10 .30 Scar17 Standar bbl 6.5G 12.5 and 18 bbl

i would look at YHM. The Resonator series I can highly recommend. Price is good too. I have no complaints. Same goes for Griffin. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Me personally asking a .30 cal can to be a do it all covering 5.56 nixes your first criteria. So I think its two cans. IF I was in the boat of selecting just two cans to cover that list I would go for the surefire 5.56 RC2 (which for surefire stuff is quite good compared to the competition in sound reduction) and the Thunderbeast Dominus for the .30 cal stuff. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

Look at Ecco Machine’s website- you may want to consider a recore. Another option to breathe life into older cans.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I'll check those out. Running some side research with all the other crap going on in my life I've been interested in the below but that doesnt mean other stuff wouldnt be better. Silencerco Omega 36m YHM Resonator Otter Creek Rotex V (birdcage would work w 553lb)

An Ecco Machine "recore" doesn't seem to apply to any of your current cans, considering your goals. hrcjon's recommendations seem like a very good bet, and are in-line with the opinions of other SIGforum serious shooters. Notes on your list: SiCo Omega 36m - I am just not crazy about the silencers that thread together. I guess it's neat to have one (I have a TurboK), as there is an undeniable versatility, but I have had too many mounts unthread when I didn't want them to, and I don't consider them "serious" or "hard use" silencers. I am likely wrong, in suggesting they aren't up to the hard use task, but it's my opinion, based on the impressions I have gotten from mine. I have a Griffin A2 adapter Rocksetted into my TurboK right now, and I use it as a loaner can, if I find myself shooting with someone who lacks a silencer. YHM Resonator - There is no doubt that the YHM cans represent a fantastic value. Otherwise, the Resonator falls victim to the same criticisms leveled on the Omega. Otter Creek - I have an OCM5 that should be approved in May. I have had periodic access to it, and have shot it some. I got it because it's supposed to be one of the quietest silencers you can get, without the expense of excessive added length. So far, I don't know that it's worth the trouble of adapting barrels for compatibility. The all-in-one muzzle devices alleviate this a bit, provided your barrel profiles permits their use. I'll be able to provide much more feedback on the OCM5 in a few months. Rotex - Probably very nice silencers, likely directly comparable to the Surefires. The NATO mount provides versatility. There are other cans that'll work with the 553LB, assuming your muzzle has the flats, like Griffin M4SD and Gemtech HALO. I have an M4SDK, and I like it very much; I also have a pre-S&W GMT HALO, and like it a lot. The Rotex is probably better than both of those though. As an added note, your current .30 OpsINC could likely work on your SCAR17, with one of those all-in-one muzzle adapters. Extra cool points because the AAC SCAR17 silencers of yore were reflex as well. This message has been edited. Last edited by: KSGM,

Recore turns the sealed Trident and Zephir into user serviceable cans at a cost of $400ish. Recore doesn’t have the cost of new stamp nor wait of a year. Request a removable front end cap for a wipe = new can with new improved internals. Choosing a 30 caliber can —> look at DeadAir Sandman or Energetic Arms Vox or Lux.

No doubt that recores have a lot to offer. I was merely stating that his current silencers don't lend themselves to recore surgeries that will result in any of them meeting his current goals.

Fun side note, I do run my ops on my scar and its actually a really good combo. Really pleasant, no cycling issues and not gassy. I do like that also the POI shift is really hard to detect though I may have got lucky. I had not really thought about the griffin and gemtech for some reason. I talked to the gemtech engineer at Shot and had a great conversation about their abyss. It will be interesting to see how the S&W thing works out for them. I'll have to check out the wipe and recore for the trident and zephyr, that sounds really cool. Ive ran subs through my APC300 with the trident and it sounded really good.

So, you can equip two guns in your list, with what you already have. Good deal. My opinion is that Gemtech is just a name now; you could translate it to "S&W silencer division". I may be alone here, but I wouldn't be eager to buy a S&W branded can, and that's how I perceive current Gemtech cans. GSL is more representative of what Gemtech was. I have shot a good many rounds through my HALO silencers, and I have a certain fondness for the design. However, they don't really meet my current and future needs/wants in a silencer. hrcjon's recommendations remain solid, with the Rotex as the front runner for the 553LB, IMO.
