They may be now, but I'm guessing that back in the mid '70s they didn't use that standard of measuring. Speaking of measuring, I measured the length of the earpieces, from the hinge point to the tip, they measure out at, you guessed it, five and one half inches. I would also like to point out that Randolph Engineering sells these on their website for over just over three times what I'm asking for these.
