Hey guys, One of my kids is getting into old-school D&D. Character pages, dice, no electronics. I’m looking for dice, maybe some of the old books (guides) etc. His birthday is coming up and I’d like to put together a cool box for him. What do you have? To be clear, I’m looking for your ‘old’ stuff in used condition; NOT interested in ‘mint condition’ books or accessories that may have significant value. Thanks! This message has been edited. Dice can be bought for cheap at any gaming shop. there are 5 editions for D&D. 3 and 3.5 are good. Maybe put up a flyer in a local game shop and see what people have.

Mistake Not... |
So there are now five (ish) rule editions for D&D. Which does he want? If not the latest, try the local used book stores, they often carry the old books for very inexpensive. The only thing he needs to play is are dice (a D4, a few D6, a D8, a D12, and at least 2 d10/20s but more of each are neat). You can get GOOBS of dice via Amazon for much cheaper than I (or anyone really) could ship to you honestly (and I need all my dice for D&D and MTG). And then when the dice thing is done, he needs a Players Handbook for the rule edition he wants to play in. You can download that if you want (but I don't want to send you link because you specifically asked for the books and I don't know the rule edition to send you to). But this book for all editions is a PDF online to make it easy for people to play. Same thing with character sheets (which are better if rule specific). If he is DMing (running the adventure/campaign) then he needs more depending on his needs. Additionally, he can also play Pathfinder, which is D&D but based on the 3.5 rules, not the current 5e rules. This is a cool thing. Please feel free to email me direct to talk more if you want. I'm sorry I can't assist with books because I use D&DBeyond, a website with all the rules. ___________________________________________ Life Member NRA & Washington Arms Collectors Mistake not my current state of joshing gentle peevishness for the awesome and terrible majesty of the towering seas of ire that are themselves the milquetoast shallows fringing my vast oceans of wrath. I have almost all of the 5th edition books. they are simplified over the 3 and 3.5. But alot of people like the pathfinder system. Wizards of the Coast the owner of D&D is super woke as well. If that matters to you

Tons of dice available at your local hobby/game store or amazon. Sadly I threw out all my RPGs in college when I met this girl. I did get back in w/ nephews years later w/ Pathfinder original. The second edition went woke. You can still find the 1st ed. stuff on amazon but most likely in "pocket book" size. Some people describe Pathfinder 1e as D&D 3.75 . Paizo.com still has Pathfinder 1e content in pdf. Usable stuff here too: https://www.d20pfsrd.com/

If it's 5th Edition D&D he's interested in, I have 7 or 8 books I can send you for just the cost of shipping. All the core books plus some. I've gone fully digital via DnDBeyond, so my physical books are just collecting dust. Shoot me an email if interested. (Unfortunately, I already got rid of all my older 2nd/3rd Edition D&D books years ago.)

Rogue - that is incredibly generous, thank you. I asked him for more detail and it turns out he too is playing referencing the online version. He’s most interested in getting the dice. ___________________________ All it takes...is all you got. ____________________________ For those who have fought for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Cool. That's probably the best/easiest route, as using the digital tools not only makes it faster and easier to play, but also easier to learn. If he's using D&D Beyond, he won't necessarily need physical dice, as there's a digital dice roller included. But some folks prefer rolling physical dice in person. As mentioned by others, dice are cheap and plentiful. For example, here's 25 full sets (each set is 7 dice each) for just $21. About 12 cents per individual die. 25 sets is way more dice than he'll ever need, but shows how cheap they are. https://www.amazon.com/Polyhed...aying/dp/B093KRSNT9/ Or here's 10 sets for $14. Even that's still a bit overkill. https://www.amazon.com/Polyhed...olors/dp/B07T9PWVKH/ So go on Amazon, or go by your local gaming store, and spend $10 or so to grab him 3 or more sets of gaming dice in his favorite colors. Heck, they even sell gaming dice at Barnes and Noble now.
