I have always wanted, yet never purchased something in Damascus. So that’s my vote.

A 4" or 5" damascus wharncliff blade would be very cool
If its going to be a keep safe item, then damascus.
If its going to be a use/utilitarian design, then s35.
It would be a shame to tarnish/scratch an damascus blade. For me they are more aesthetic then user. Where as the 35 begs to be used daily.
Just my 2 cents.

I don't think I could say it better than Nickelsig.
Depends on what you're doing with the knife.
A work knife- the S35
Safe queen / BBQ knife- Damascus all day!

This is a beautiful piece of “Buckshot” Damascus from Alabama Damascus. The poll is NOT over yet, but if you decide you want Damascus, this is the exact billet I will be using!!

I am so exited, after the poll on steel choices for the Sigforum-DBK Giveback Raffle, the Steel will be Damascus from Alabama Damascus. The billet is GORGEOUS “Buckshot“ pattern, .125” thick. Here is a shot of the actual billet as it looked from the forging kitchen of this awesome Company.
The billet is so nice, I wanted something that would show the pattern as best it could while creating a design that “wants” to be used and not just out for display. So literally to the drawing board, well, steel, in this case. The max I could get out of the billet was 10 1/4” overall length. A 5” blade (from plunge to tip)will be perfect. I am doing all the bells and whistles, Choil has been added, lanyard tube hole, DOUBLE jimpimg, thumb and tip! The blade will be hand sanded to 600 grit and polished to show the ultimate Damascus patterning. It will sport .250” and .125” pins and the lanyard tube will be .250”. It will be etched to show it’s beautiful skin after heat treat. The pics were taken BEFORE the lanyard tube holes were drilled.
Out it goes to heat treat today, a journey up to Meadville Pa. for the perfect level of hardening⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️! This will take 10-14 days and then we will wrap this project up and Raffle it off. Pins and Scale material have not been decided upon yet but it will be chosen to compliment the patterning of the steel. This will be a beautiful knife! Voting for the material is over, but I will put together a Raffle when I get it back from Heat Treat! Stay tuned⚔️⚔️
Just got the blade back from heat treat and did my “ two stage etch”. This is a BEAUTIFUL piece of steel. I should have scales mounted and ready for viewing soon!
This piece has almost a "Chatoyancy" to it!! I do not understand how but it is lovely! This message has been edited. Last edited by: sybo, May 29, 2019 06:17 AM
