Ha! And then they promptly banned it from tracks due to lack of cage and a host of other things required in sub-10s.

Well you would expect something like that from Dodge, right? This one caught me off guard, apparently being introduced at the NY car show.

As if Dodge had no idea of the NHRA requirements.
And NHRA did not "ban" it. The car does not meet those requirements and anyone teching the cars at tracks that comply will not pass the car.

Fast and Loud already did this.. they even bypassed the wiring harness to make it a stand alone.. it was fast.

Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Estimated Arrival and Price: Seriously, is it April yet? The Demon will be unveiled at the 2017 New York auto show before deliveries commence later this year. Expect a base price near the $80,000 mark, as well as a limited production run.
At that price, I'll take two!
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown

You can always get one pass in before they boot you. And we both know MAYBE one owner will actually be able to break into the 9's, I bet we see really high 10's or low 11's from these in owners hands.

Yes. My brother works a drag-strip in Wichita. Drag racing has been a family thing for more that 60 years all over the country. And once in a while, someone gets by him or the other techs by misrepresenting their cars, but you can better believe very few people would be able to sneak the Demon past almost any tech at any strip, knowing what it is capable of doing.
I still like "you build 'em, you run 'em flat out" drag racing and the "automated and bracket thing", not so much.
But, spectators pay for a lot of the scene, and if it does not fill the seats, it does not fill the wallet.
And sadly, too many of the good ol' American institutions have been lost. So, if it makes smoke and noise, I'm in!

I remember you told me that when we were talking as I opened my shop. You're probably right about them noticing the car, I still don't think we are going to see any stock ones in the 9's, I bet to get the 9.6 it was the best of 100 runs, on 100 octane gas, perfectly prepped track, etc.
