Ama went to Olive garden for lunch, the employee , came out to the car to get payment in advance,

Ama gave her a hundred dollar bill that just came from the bank envelope,

When the food and change came back to the car, it was $80.00 short.
Ama called her on it, and the girl denied it.

So the server carries a $20.00 bill in her pocket,
Swaps it for the hundred dollar bill and no one can prove anything.

Ama is s.o.l. as she didn't ask for the Mgr. Or call the cops.

I am going to be steaming about this way too long.

Don't let this slide. I hate people taking advantage of older people.
Call corp. Post on their FB page, go back and talk to the manager.

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

I would notify the police in case others have/will reported same thing.

Will urge her to pursue it,
She's ashamed and embarrassed,
She
Wasn't in tears but it wouldn't take much.

She did not have a 20 to give the server, I believe Ama.

I will call the Mgr. And corporate tomorrow.

Go forward with this. If this slides it will just give the little thief the incentive to do it more and more... if this isn’t what is happening already.

Almost like not taking people to jail or no cash bail in democratic run cities... oh sorry, that is another topic but, I am sure you can see a link.

They have been perpetrating a fraud for years selling you folks the crap they consider "Italian" food!
Back to the OP, definitely get the cops involved AND post on social media. Companies hate that bad publicity and would gladly pay 100 for it to go away. As mentioned above, perhaps this server has a history of doing this, and the company is just waiting for another accuser. Receipt from bank couldn't hurt either.

The older I get the less I trust folks I don’t know. It’s probably not the first time this happened with that employee at that Olive Garden. Be relentless to recover the loss with the GM of the place. The GM should know their folks.

It will not be hard to identify the employee. They work regular shifts. Let us know what happens. Management will do what it takes to make this go away. If not, this sort of thing makes for a brief human interest story on the local news. If that happens it may be under new managment/ownership in the near future.

GF is Italian and considers Olive Garden so called Italian food as overpriced crap. So, we don't go there.

Also, where ever I go I always pay with a Credit Card and I never order take out food. If I can't sit at a table inside the restaurant, I won't go there.

I preach to people all the time about the joys of credit cards. Why play with your own money.

Wallet falls out of your purse --- you lost your money
Get robbed--- you lost your money
Debit card gets hacked ---- you lost your money
Waitress switches bills --- you lost your money

My wife and I talk about this stuff all the time and always think about what happens when karma does come calling.

What happens when you roll craps and scam the person “who doesn’t call the police”. What happens when you scam some mafia don’s gam gam. How about the batshit crazy guy or serial killer. Etc. Etc.

I mean I am, at least in general terms, a fairly decent and ethical person but even if I wasn’t I just KNOW if I did shit like this the first person I did it to would be some MS13 “cleaner”’s mom or girlfriend or something and the next thing I know I am in a pit putting lotion on.

Frankly I am totally ok with that happening to folks who do this kinda crap.

I took a class on Elder Exploitation a year or two ago. The statistics were breathtaking (the percentage of older adults who have been scammed in one way or another.)

And, it's hugely under-reported. Embarrassment plays a big part in that, the victim not wanting to admit that they perhaps weren't at the top of their "awareness" game.

Do not let this slide. And I agree: The best business decision the GM could make would be "make this right."

Had a dealers shop perform car service not too long ago.....got the "your air filter needs replacement" routine.....hmmmm just did it myself not so long ago.....so they show me "a" dirty filter. Only problem is....its not the one I put in because I put my initial on it with a paint pen. I politely ask to have a conversation with the service manager and ask him to dial up the Regional manager for a chat. Needless to say I tore a few people a new orifice that day.
