What really blows my mind is that the first manned, powered flight was in just 1903…lasting 12 seconds and covering a whopping 120 feet.

So in the space of just ~ 66 years we went from not being able really fly to putting people on a foreign body in space 239,000 miles away with no oxygen.

Absolutely astonishing…

When you look at the cars of the time a realize that was the state of technology for the average person, it’s really amazing.

I was 8 at the time. I was allowed to stay up after my prescribed 8:30 bed time to watch it on our black and white TV, and we didn't go to bed until well after midnight.

My dad literally broke the back of his rocking chair because he was so tense. He accidentally pushed his upper back through it. (He had farmed all his life and was ridiculously strong.)

When he was a young man, there was still significant horse drawn traffic, supplemented by electric mass transportation. Then he sat in his living room, aged only in his 50's, watching live as men walked on the moon. I don't understand how that generation managed to adapt.

I remember staying up late with my father to watch. It was the early morning following my 14th birthday.

My Dad stayed up all night watching it. I was asleep probably crapping my diaper.

I was just out of HS. I remember watching with my entire family on our B&W Packard Bell TV.
It sure was not hard to look around and find a REAL hero back then, when men were men and acted like it.
This country is unrecognizable now and not for the better!
