I put together a system for my friend’s plant a few years ago and I’m feeling frisky enough to do a security camera system for myself.
I like the idea of a package deal where there no compatibility issues, but I want something better than consumer quality.
Anyone have any experience with Backstreet Surveillance?

The only folks I could recommend would be SuperCircuits. But I have not bought anything from them in a while.

Thank you Mr. YooperSigs. It’s been a while since I did business with those nice folks. I just didn’t recall their name. SS is good now. Thanks

SuperCircuits is essentially rebranded HiKVision. One of the two big Chinese OEM's. The other is Dauha.

Any box set you buy will likely be made by one of them and have its drawbacks as they tend to dumb down the rebranded stuff. Most are all fixed lens cameras, and not particularly good at night.

A good honest distributor is Nelly's, https://www.nellyssecurity.com/ they carry HiK vision equipment. Call Sean and talk to him, he's been very helpful to me and others over the years.

A good resource for info http://www.ipcamtalk.com

I'm designing my own, using the surveillance capability in the NAS I already have, a PoE switch, and selected Dahua IP cameras.

I've always been inclined to build my own, using "best in class" bits (to the extent finances allow) that work with one another. I dislike "proprietary."

Thanks Big Red for that link. I’m reading their cliff notes now.
I noticed that one of that forum’s highly regarded members sells and ships the Dahua brand cameras direct from Hong Kong.

Yeah, Andy. He's GTG in my book. He got my first Dahua camera to me quickly. I'm waiting for the one I want to eval for inside use to become in stock to order another.

I use BlueIris software and hopefully come next week will finish my dedicated PC build for it.
I have an Amcrest/Foscam camera, Dahua, a crazy old D link VGA camera, and a Nelly’s doorbell camera (not up and running due to lack of time so far to modify my door frame).
All these cameras play very well with BlueIris. Once the dedicated PC is up and running I’ll add 3 more cameras and be done.
My current PC running the cams is old and slow so my 3 cameras max out the CPU when pretty much any other program is running.
