I have a 2012 Lincoln with a factory GPS. It has quit talking. The maps are working, but no audio. Any ideas? | ||

Does your GPS have a female voice? If so,you must have done something to deserve the silent treatment. | |||

^^^^^  Deep in the menu, the nav system in my VW has a setting for voice command volume. Once in a while, the system reboots and resets that volume level. Could your Lincoln be doing something similar? God bless America. | |||

Perhaps along the like of vthoky, I think my Pathfinder has at least 3 volume settings and it's easy for one to get out of whack. Radio, Nav/GPS/voice commands, and cell phone interface. (And the cell phone phone setting interfaces with the cell phone itself. If the cell phone volumn is off, no volumn through the car audio. Volumn high on the cellphone but low on the car setting - no volumn. Solution, car setting at mid point, now I can go up or down with my cell phone.) Speak softly and carry a | |||

Mine did that once. Unknowingly, I had hit the correct sequence of selections to lower the navigation volume to zero. Check your car or GPS manual to see how to increase the volume. If nothing else seems to fix it, you might try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. A reboot of sorts. And please post back what fix it. Good luck to you. | |||

On my GMC the volume knob controls the nav voice volume when the nav voice is talking then it switches back to radio volume after the gal stops talking. | |||

I found a volume control in the menu section, but it doesn't seem to fix the problem. | |||

consider yourself fortunate I spent a long time punching through menu's to turn my voice off all I wanted was the map and I'm not at the point where I pre-load a destination but don't enable it until I'm within a mile or two of my destination I know how to get to the general area, I just need the last 3 or 4 turns - not the entire trip | |||

Mark is a technological whiz. I believe I have the voice back. It wasn't exactly as listed, but close. The key was to go to navigation. I am very grateful for your assistance. You knew more than the technicians at the Ford dealership.

I agree with you, I don't like it. However I had to go to the Chicago suburbs for a blood test. I looked at the map, but needed some prompting while driving. I have had the car 5 years and this was probably the 3rd or 4th time I had used it.

^^^^^^^ I could have helped you grew up in Chicago. Seriously, I never use these things. I go to Google Maps and print out the directions. Additionally, I will ask for directions if it is a suitable area of town. | |||

I am 140 miles south of Chicago and my wife is from the suburbs. I usually go downtown to Northwestern for my bloodwork. However because of the virus, etc I did not want to ride the train or be downtown. I went to a NW facility in Naperville for the test. I had been in Naperville before, but never to where I was going.

Wise not to ride the Metra. I have family in Naperville. My brother has been a firefighter there for years. When I fly into Chicago my brother picks me up and drives me so I do not need a GPS. He does use one according to my sister as he frequently gets lost. | |||

Those GPS units can be tricky at times. When they first were becoming popular, my friend bought one and thought it would be neat to change language to "Chinese". He wanted to hear the street names spoken in Chinese as he drove around. Well, when he changed it to Chinese, all the instructions, screen prompts etc., also changed to Chinese. By trial and error, he finally got it back to English about 2 weeks later. | |||
