Would you embrace the Metric system in the US?
My thermostat is in metric as my wife understands Celsius better, after the Army, living overseas and working in telecom I can and do use it as much as the Imperial system.

So I really don't care....except that it makes us different from the rest of the world....I like that

Not a chance. We have been doing things way too long our way, to change for the rest of the world. It would cause so much confusion.

It annoys the crap out of me. Especially when it comes to nuts & bolts. Was really fun when some American cars had a mixture of both. Should have stuck with our own.

I halfway understood the MS when we were introduced to it back in the '70s in school, but at that time, I wasn't old enough to understand the politics and all of the rest of the issues surrounding it.

After some years on me now since then, I logically like the system, and I wouldn't be against a push for it in the future...just like digital TV broadcasts. I don't see it ever happening, but again, I wouldn't be against it if there was.

Another thing, I still don't know why there are 28 days in February when the other months have 2 or three more days. Whey couldn't they smooth February out to 30 by forcibly removing days from other months? The leap year would still give it 31 days so no problem there.

When I was a student, my professors convinced me the metric system was logical. Now that I'm old and grouchy, I have no more interest in switching to the metric system than I do switching to the Euro.

Yours, too? Dang.

Manufacturers are beginning to catch on to the (missing) 10mm phenomenon. Here's a 31 piece set of 10mm:

10mm Socket and Ratcheting Wrench Combo Pack (31 Pcs).

Nope, no socialist metric crap for me.

Nope. That was Jimmy Carter's deal and look what happened to him.
Although, in time, he was replaced as biggest dick president by obama.

But note, they have 1/4" and 3/8" drives. Smile

As an engineer I routinely work in both systems.

Metric is substantially easier to work with than American

I must first state that nobody really bothers which system the USA use and this is definitively your internal choice, but I have to say that I am surprised by the so negative and even aggressive comments generated by the question. Please allow a humble comment from a small point somewhere in the rest of the world: It is difficult from outside to understand why the USA continue and some are so proud using the not really logical imperial system inherited as you were a colony of the British Empire. In the modern industrial world, the metric system (not introduced by the socialists or even by the communists, but by the French (sorry) 230 years ago) is so much easier to use and allows a logical and comprehensive relationship between length, volumes and thus weight that it is difficult to understand the attachment to the SAE system which makes your life so much more difficult.

Not a scientist. But I was physics major (and math)
I could handle metric just fine. But it will never go in U.S.

And this should convince you all.

280 Remington
Having been released 32 years after the .270 Winchester, it had somewhat unspectacular sales. Remington renamed the cartridge in late 1978 to 7mm-06 Remington but just before the end of the year they renamed it again calling it the 7 mm Express in an attempt to increase sales. This resulted in people confusing it with the 7 mm Remington Magnum, and Remington changed the name back to .280 in 1981.

More like kicking and screaming. Razz Actually, in automotive, it has infiltrated slowly over time and has become commonplace. When was the last time you heard an engine displacement expressed in cubic inches? My inch wrenches and sockets are largely pushed to a corner of my tool box.

I would gladly change. I'm in biotech. Everything is metric and celsius.

These go to eleven.

No. As Ronald Reagan said, let them learn our measuring system.

Except it's not "ours." As RoC explained, just above, it's actually British. The fact that the original name of the measurement system is "Imperial" units is a dead give-away. (Well, mostly. We made up our own fluid measurement "standards," which are almost, but not quite the same as, Imperial measurements.)

Nor is the metric system "socialist."

Good grief. Some of the things some of y'all come up with in defense of sticking with an outmoded, un-intuitive, clumsy measurement system are laughable

Laughable as in how, many years ago, a friend told me of a story about a conversation with an old man during which the issue of the (at the time) impending change to metric in the U.S. came up. The old man objected to it vehemently.

He didn't want to have to buy a new watch.

There's good "different" and different that's nonsensical. Our measurement system falls into that latter category. The Imperial measurement system is as illogical as DST, as outmoded as the horse and buggy, and is no more "American" than the Pound Sterling.

We bought a bike for our daughter back in those days when Metric was tried I believe in the 70’s. I didn’t know at the time it had to put together with Metric tools I didn’t have. Do you want a list of words I used? Mad
