Yes. The growing pains would be temporary.

Yes I like the metric system. I work maintenance in a factory that is mostly metric and it is much easier than dealing with fractions. When I was in junior high back in the 60s we had a class learning about the metric system and I thought we would be converting over but it never happened. Too bad, if we had converted then, everyone would be used to it's simplicity now. I am proud to be an American and understand the fuck the world attitude but it just doesn't make a lot of sense to cling to an archaic system of measurement.

Well there is that, I am down with quarts and yards.
But calling out targets at meters using my best aussie accent can be fun.

Yes. I work with Watts/KG a lot. It is horrible, but for HP we have to go HP.

I'm studying for my Ham license. Apparently, radio switched to the metric system years ago. I'm too old for this crap... I once saw a poster of one of the Apollo moon landings with the caption: There are those countries that use the metric system and those that put a man on the moon.

I'd be fine either way. Trained in both and boy, once you've had to calculate stuff in English units and then learn Metric there's no going back. More often than not we'd convert into metric at the start of a problem, do the math, and then convert back.

And, well, they call it the 'metric' system but at the time (late '70s) the physics folks were having a factional dispute between meter-kilogram-second and centimeter-gram-second systems. I don't know which faction won - maybe that battle still rages in the ivory tower.

It has its uses in science, but there's no incentive to use it in everyday life.

Has anyone done the "I shoot 10mm, not that weak .40 crap" joke yet?

We ditched the crown but kept the Kings English and the Imperial measurement system. I think we were and are correct on all three actions.
