Would you embrace the Metric system in the US?
Back in February before workout equipment went through the roof I bought a weight set for my son (and me) to use at home. Olympic bar and Olympic weight plates, but, the plates are in KG. So I do a lot of converting, especially since we got some incremental weight plates in Imperial.

Anyways. I like metric weight. I like metric volume.

I can't math distance and measurements though, I always have to convert to inches, miles or MPH.

So would you hate it? Embrace it?

They tried that about 60 years ago. It didn't take well to much of the US population.

I would. (Remember I'm a scientist.) Funny thing, in the 70s the US was supposed to switch to metric. Car speedometers had to have kilometer hatches by law. But the big change never happened.

I have been converting back and forth for decades, so I could survive if we did it.

But I draw the line at a metric day, metric week and metric year.

When I was in grade school in the 60's, they told us the US would be joining the 'metric world' and started teaching us the metric system.
It's 2020 now ...

I think there are a lot of others like me that resist it.

Screw the rest of the world. They can't even decide on how to spell liter / litre / meter / metre

Two types of countries. Those that use the metric system and those that have put a man on the moon.

The only example I know of is Swatch time, that nobody uses.

As a retired scientist, I used the metric system all the time for work. AT home, I prefer my nuts and bolts in the old SAE style.

Only time I use metric is in the expression "metric ton of shit!", or referring to certain firearms calibers. Big Grin

I started college in engineering, switched to accounting/business (where metric has no bearing).

But conversions for distance, weight, mass are so much easier in metric. And I am an hobbyist woodworker, have built most of the furniture and cabinets in our house. I have found that it is easier and faster to use metric rather than English measurements.

How many are aware that the standard foot ("US Survey Foot") is changing and the end of 2022?

You probably won't notice the difference, but the US will be using the "International foot" from that point forward.

I like metric better than fractions on tools and such. I think it's really stupid to have 3 different systems.......U.S., Imperial, and Metric....... I deal with it on some yachts where parts are 3 different systems on the same yacht......metric (on bolts and stuff), British Pipe Thread on others, and U.S. on others.
