The one that comes to mind, though not from my graduation had one key message that always stuck with me. "Wear Sunscreen" It was attributed to Kurt Vonnegut, but he never gave it nor had anything to do with it. I regretted attending my high school graduation. I remember thinking afterward that it seemed like a waste of time. If we were given any good advice I ignored it, as high school kids usually do. I didn’t attend the ceremony at UT, which I figured would take several hours due to the volume of victims. Having my diploma mailed to me was probably about the only good decision I made in college.

I remember nothing. Who it was or what was said. I saw Hillary gave the commencement speech some where recently. What a load of crap that had to be.

Hell no! It was a 100 years ago for me but I do remember everyone looking at their watches and then staring down at the floor until the stupid thing was over. But, we were normal kids then...who knows about this day and age. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.

I have always co sidered them strictly being strictly for prestige or bragging rights. The school wants to show that they are important enough to 'get' big name speakers or that they have famous alumni. The students, if they care, probably only care about how big the name is. Couodnt even tell you who spoke at my commencement (which was on the white house ellipse) because I was too busy celebrating with my family which was way more important.

The speaker at my college graduation was George H. W. Bush. I think he was head of the CIA at the time. I remember nothing about what he said. The only thing I remember about the HS one was that the speaker gave money so one of my classmates could go to collage. That was great, but my classmate was killed in a auto crash a few months later.
