Gotta love the Mossad.

Now they're going to have to rely on passing notes.

From a friend (needs to be verified obviously);

"Mossad was able to Inject a Compound of Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate (PETN) into the Batteries of the New Encrypted Pagers that Hezbollah began using around February, before they even arrived in the Hands of Hezbollah Members, allowing them to Remotely Overheat and Detonate the Lithium Battery within the Device." -Sky News Arabia

Supply injection is problematic and hard to defend against.

What's interesting is that pagers are still in use. I suppose you can't ping the location of a pager.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Sure you can; two way pagers vs. one way pagers require intelligent location aware routing.

I hear cries that innocent civilians and medical personnel use pagers and were harmed. If Israel was behind the attack, wouldn't they be able to monitor pager usage and weed out the innocents? And I'd imagine there are plenty of medical personnel and average citizens who materially support Hezbollah. Pick your friends and employers more carefully.

I am all for a surgical Nuke strike. This would have many repercussions I am sure but the biggest benefit would be all those groups thinking twice about effing with Israel.

The communication devices arrived from Iran five months ago, and it seems they were booby-trapped. Each explosive charge hidden inside them weighed no more than 20 grams, and they were remotely heated, causing them to explode simultaneously.

In other words, the intelligence and operational breach occurred within Iran, and now the regime in Tehran and Hezbollah should bury themselves in shame and disappear. They are the laughingstock of the Middle East.

An incredible achievement for Israel, unprecedented in the history of warfare, and Hezbollah's fighting force has taken a devastating blow.

Has Israel claimed responsibility? I don't think so.

There are many factions within Iran that might want to embarrass the current theocracy.

I'd be far more interested in examining that question.

Nonetheless, brilliant attack vector.

ETA: Someone check my arithmetic here please.

20 grams of PETN occupies about 11 cm^3 (1.77 gms/cm^3 density).

An empty 9x19mm casing has a volume of 0.86 cm^3.

Thus, a 20 gram PETN charge would occupy the space of 10 or so 9x19mm casings inside the pager.

The arithmetic seems off.

20 grains of PETN, that would fit (occupies roughly 1.5 9x19mm casings) and is more than enough to cause a "pop!" like on the videos.

ETA 2:

In case you don't know, PETN is the explosive commonly used in det cord. It is measured in grains per linear foot (US) or grams/meter (everywhere else on Earth).

50 grain/foot det cord is roughly 10 g/m.

The cries you're hearing are fictional propaganda! The Pagers in question were a shipment of two-way encrypted pagers specifically intended for members of Hezbollah. Presumably the only risk to innocents and medical personnel would be if Hezbollah fighters were part of the company they keep (maybe they're not so innocent!), and they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
