Terrible to hear this Tara. I have diverticulosis but have not suffered any perforations. Praying that the inflammation goes down and they don't have to go in.

My thoughts and prayers and with you, Tara. I had the exact same thing happen to me in 2013, same cause and everything. I ended up on the surgery table that same night, carried via ambulance from Wickenburg Hospital, where it was diagnosed, straight to Boswell Hospital in Sun City. In my case, they removed the last 6" of my colon (the sigmoid colon), and performed a temporary (2 months) "loop ileostomy", to isolate the entire colon. After a perf, they want to isolate that portion of the colon for 2 months to let it heal properly. It wasn't too bad, in retrospect, just a PIA to deal with the bag for two months, but that was it. And having only a small intestine for that time, I was on a low fiber diet. Lots of ice cream and mashed potatoes (and some other more nutritious meals). It was actually a pretty enjoyable diet. Recovery from the reversal actually took longer, because they removed and stitched up the stoma, which cut across the abdominal muscles, and which takes longer to heal with less strain allowed.

Prayers for your full and speedy recovery.

2010, I spent a week in the hospital while they were trying to diagnose my problem; it turned out to be diverticulosis. My recovery was complete, no complications.

Something good did come of it. During all of the tests and lab work that were done they did notice that my PSA was very high -- 27. If it had not been for my hospitalization due to diverticulosis, it is possible that my prostate cancer would not have been detected until it was too late to do anything about it. Of course it would be astounding if you had a problem like that. Wink

We are all waiting to hear good news from you.

I know exactly what you're experiencing Tara, as I had the same many years ago, actually in my late 20's. Doc said he'd never seen it in someone so young. Mine actually perforated while I was in the hospital and i had to deal with peritonitis in addition.
The thought of having to live with the bag for some time was scary, but I talked with some others who had had i and they calmed me down. It turned out to not be that big a deal.
Since recovery I've never had the random gut pains I used to get prior to the experience.

The main side effect is I now have to be careful using punctuation, as I only have a semi-colon.

Hello RN -

Sorry for all of your discomfort. Lots of prayers and good thoughts coming your way. It sucks being sick and not knowing what is going on. My brother had repeated bouts with D; I've no idea if it is genetic or not but keep to a fairly bland diet just the same.

Prayers, for you as you recover.

FWIW, I have two friends in the exact same situation and they both were treated without surgery. Hope for the best for you.
