Small storm just went through. It dropped 1.5” of rain in fifteen minutes! My ditches looked like creeks, the creeks looked like rivers. I guess I better go check my sump pump!

About 3 weeks ago, we had 8” of rain in 2 hours. That is more rain in 2 hours than Hurricane Harvey dropped. I’m in a new development so our curb and gutters are designed for the 100 year event of 2.2” in 2 hours. Houses all sit a few feet higher than the street so that wasn’t an issue. Water was gone 30 min after the rain stopped.

Some people chose not to park in their garage or driveway (once again, new development with big garages and plenty of driveway space. Zero driveway and garaged cars flooded) got a surprise. A few who parked in front of the street drain (aka lowest point on the block) got a big surprise with water over SUV headlights. Of course, in their opinion it wasn’t their fault despite dozens of t-storm, tornado, hail, and flash flood watches and warning ahead of time.
