I see we haven't had a recent discussion concerning donuts or bacon, or donuts with bacon sprinkles, or just bacon. I tried my first donut with bacon the other day. I can't say I'm a serious fan of them yet. Maybe they are like scotch, and it's an acquired taste. Sorry no pics. We ate the evidence.

I'm trying to think of anything I eat today that I wouldn't eat because it had bacon on it..... I need more time, a lot more time.....

There was a local place when we lived in Springfield (MO) Hurtz Donut (they’re since franchised out elsewhere) that was known for their maple bacon donuts. Went in one time to find a decent donut covered in grocery store shelf bacon bits. Was not a fan.

On the flip side the maple bacon donut I got from Voodoo donuts in Portland was awesome. And I understand Voodoo is the more touristy of the shops up there, so I suspect there are even better offerings out there.

I concur! Gotta still be warm as they make them. It's like a bite with french toast, maple syrup and bacon all in the same bite. Just had some last week on vacation in VA Beach area. Smile

Not a fan of bacon on pastry. I love chocolate covered bacon though. Another thing I've tried but wasn't overly impressed with is splitting a glazed donut and using it for a hamburger bun. It was ok but didn't rock my world.

I've tried the combo and although I wouldn't call it yukky, I'm careful about mixing savory with sweet. If it's a savory thing you're eating, if there's any sweet it should be a slight background and insignificant. Same goes for eating sweet. Don't put hot sauce, garlic, onion etc on my chocolate ice-cream And I don't want sugar on my steak. Sure you can tweak these combos, but my question is why. Eat your meal, have some coffee and dessert.

Damn! The website shows the closest location to me is in Daytona. A bit over 100 mile round trip. Might be worth it though.

Sorry, I'm a purist. Bacon is bacon. Bacon-flavored donuts are a poor substitute for bacon.

Look at this from a different perspective. Not a substitute for bacon, that is true, but it is certainly an improved donut!

All the major food groups in one convenient serving.

Hypnotic Donuts in Dallas has the “Canadian Healthcare” - a maple bar topped with an whole strip of bacon laid down the length. Really, really good.
