Another Craigslist Score.

I know a lot of you guys don't like/trust Craigslist, but I've snagged a few good deals from it. (Also had many a hearty laugh at what some people ask for shit...)

My "welding table" has been a 16" square piece of perforated 16 gauge sheet on wheels with a 3" vise for...well...since I bought my first welder 20 years or so ago. I wanted something a tad more substantial for my new shop.

I started to price steel to build my own and dropped that idea like a hot rock when a 4 foot square piece of 1/4" hot rolled plate priced out at $303.xx with tax. Fut dat!

Grabbed what you see off CL for $100. Just over 40" square, braced up stiffer than a June groom, adjustable feet for leveling, decently flat top and a nice Craftsman vise that dates from the 70's.

Even after spending a day driving half way across the state (160 miles one way, and that's before Google Maps led me on a merry chase...) and dropping $70 on gas, I'm a happy camper!

Cleaned up the top and ground off some welding boogers, fixed a couple of minor issues with the vise and lubed it up and I'm ready to make smoke and slag.

$170? Half a day of leisure driving?

You couldn't build it that cheap nor in four to six hours. Major score. Congrats!

And since that's a crappy vise, send it my way and you pay freight with all the dough you saved. Wink

I think that’s fantastic! I did the same thing, three hours each way to buy an old 6” Wilton bullet vise and have never regretted that either. Solid gear is hard to find now days and some of us still treasure having it.

Yeah, I'll get right on that... Big Grin

Actually, I'm working on a couple of other vises I rescued before I came across this deal. Now I'm vise poor...

Awesome score. Quite a badass table for a hundred bucks.

Great deal. I'm looking for just that for my welder. Got most of the goods, but not a decent table yet.

I think CL depends on where you are. Like I wouldn't want to do CL in Stockton, CA.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." This is true. I wouldn't do CL near ANY major city.

Fortunately, there ARE no major cities in Maine. One of the reasons I love this place.

Even so, I'd be somewhat hesitant to deal in parts of Bangor and Portland would be pretty much a no-go.

Damn, I’m jealous…

Looking to build such a table but the cost is well over $500 for what I want.

Nice score!

I'd say there's at least $100 in just the vise.

True. This was in Turner, just North of Lewiston a ways. I avoid Lewiston/Auburn like the plague. What a shithole.

Very nice work table setup and great score.

This is my score from last year. Didn't pay anywhere near 1k for it.
