Yang has made a name for himself by deeming himself the Asian guy good with math.

Last night, he started his impassioned speech started with the promise he would offset the $1000/ month per adult (259 million in the US x 12,000/ year is $3.108 trillion) by taxing amazon because they have put so many businesses out of business. I guess he does not realize their NET INCOME for last 12 months was an all time high of ....... wait for it.....$12.09 billion. The amount of all of their sales worldwide was $3.08 trillion.

As a matter of fact, if you take the top 50 retailers in the US, all of their Net Income would not yield $500 billion dollars. To go one step further, the firm with the largest Net Income (totaled) over the last 10 years is Apple, and their last 10 years combined Net Income totals $376 billion.

Alternatively, if you took all the money Amazon received for sales, it would still not be enough to pay for his little boondoggle. His whole campaign is based on reparation for automation, but ultimately not every job will be replaced, and while automation has vastly changed the auto industry, cars have also not increased at inflationary rates, and the (quality) welds are significantly better than manual welds were in the 80's, and is considered part of the reason cars last longer these days.

Will anybody call this ass clown out for his "fuzzy math"?

It's moronic, but let's say for the sake of argument that it could be implemented. I'll give him a tiny bit of credit. At least the money is given to people to spend (more likely piss away) as they see fit, rather than taken from people and spent as politicians and bureaucrats see fit.

Sadly, there is an entire generation of morons that hear him and think it’s a fabulous idea, and somehow sustainable. If you want to see what they look like, watch the movie “Idiocracy”.

Anyone that can make a net profit of $12.09 billion on net sales of $3.08 billion gets my vote for President.
Must have some real good accountants that can just print money. Smile

I'll fix it. Should be $3.08 trillion.

Easy solution, raise everyone's taxes by $1,100 a month. Problem solved.

The $1,000 will cover the program payouts. The extra $100 will cover all the benefits and pensions for the new Department of Free Money administrators. Added bonus, thousands of new, otherwise unneeded high paying government jobs for the socialists people.

Thankfully last night was pretty much the last you'll see or hear of him as they have to start shedding all these nobodies in time for the next set of debates.

Maybe Yang's plan is to use the fines collected from gun manufacturers to fund his UBI proposal.

Yang is one of those candidates who's a single platform candidate, think Swalwell, Gillibrand, Williamson and Styer. When it comes to issues not related to finance or, the like, he's out of his depth.

UBI I have no issues about, so long as its the same as what's discussed around the world. Everyone below specific income, gets a supplement UBI. That also means that civic entitlements like food stamps, social services, unemployment and welfare are eliminated, since those AND a UBI would be considered double-dipping.

Out of his depth, yeah, I'd say so

Not trying to derail the thread too much ... but Amazon's revenue in 2018 was roughly 232 billion - nowhere near 3 trillion. source

U.S. Government revenue is roughly 3.6 trillion annually. (that's OUR MONEY).

None of these candidates have even the slightest idea of what they are talking about, especially economically.

You want Democrats to correct each other on taxes? Truth is, Yang is probably the most mathematically gifted candidate on the left. That is, the smartest of a bunch of morons.

Whatever good opinions I had about him due to his supposed math skills disappeared like a fart in a hurricane when I heard him talk about climate change. He fits right in with those idiots, the smartest of them all he may be.

He's arguing for $1k/mo. for every single citizen, unless they opt to receive some other sort of assistance from the federal government instead. Of course he's got some unacceptable ideas, but at least to me he doesn't seem like he's just lying non-stop, like most all the rest of them. UBI seems to me it would likely be a disaster, but I don't think it's a bad idea to investigate and hash out, incase AI and robots do cause mass unemployment in the future.

Universal Basic Income Handout

Income: (a) money received, especially on a regular basis, for work or through investments, (b) money (or some equivalent value) that an individual or business receives in exchange for providing a good or service or through investing capital.

Handout: Something given freely or distributed free to those in need. It can refer to government welfare or a charitable gift, and it may take the form of money, food, or other necessities.

^^^ I'm not arguing for it, but what he's pushing is for EVERYONE to get a check, hence the name universal. (You can't be on other federal programs and still get the check.)

I think Milton Friedman was in favor of some sort of UBI, aka, a "reverse income tax."

Here's a brief explanation of UBI:

Would be far more lucrative to fine auto manufacturer $1m for every person killed with one of their cars. Or how about fining pharma companies $1m for every person killed using one of their products.

This sort of BS thinking by Yang proves he's no where near as smart as he thinks he is.

And that's where Yang's proposal would hypothetically find the rest of the money for his program(s). Unfortunately, as they always say, once an entitlement program is begun, it can never be terminated, so good luck to Yang in taking away all that coin from the freeloaders, regardless what he promises to give them in exchange.

You are correct in that Friedman was indeed in favor of addressing poverty through a UBI. Unfortunately, there just aren't enough videos of him talking about it for us to fully grasp what his complete approach would be. Its probably the one topic I would have loved to have had a conversation with Milton about. And yes, Milton is one of my all time favorite people (yep, I'm an econ geek).

He's not proposing taking away the programs, that I've heard. It's either stay on the program(s), or get the check for $1,000, to spend however you want.
