Probably not helpful, in terms of getting things working again quickly, but here is what (I think) is happening: Google now insists on an authentication method called Oauth2. This is an Internet standard, which usually means widespread interoperability, except that the standard allows multiple options not all of which have been adopted/implemented by all applications. So it isn't that iOS/macOS/Chrome/whatever is doing anything "wrong," it is just that they aren't doing it the way Google/GMail wants. Workarounds: use the web-based GMail client instead of your preferred mailer. Fixes (maybe, no guarantees): upgrade all of your OS, applications, application add-ons, hardware, etc. to the most recent versions, perhaps even to include beta releases. Sooner or later it may be that the various components will come into sync and things will (magically?) start working again. Older devices may never get the appropriate updates. Far be it from me to say that this is a vendor strategy to get customers to buy newer devices, not that there aren't similar issues with backwards compatibility. There are many niggling, niggling, extremely niggling details that may need to be addressed before all the partners in this complicated minuet see what they want, so how long you might have to wait is indeterminate.

Yeah, sounds like an authorization error. Log into itunes and force restart your ipad. This should make it update. If that doesn't solve it I can look into more options. Like architect said, sounds like a google "compliance" issue rather than a hardware problem. Does it work with the chrome app rather than the safari app? Or are you using apples email app? gmail app? 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

Thanks guys. Otto I can access Itunes. But how do I force a restart other than just turning it off the normal way using the slide switch method?. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Copied from google for ease: iPad with a Home button Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears. Then, release both buttons. iPad without a Home button Press and quickly release the volume button closest to the top button, then press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button. Next, press and hold the top button until the Apple logo appears, and then release the top button. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!
