Battle of Midway June 4-7, 1942
A rather remarkable coincidence that the two most important engagements in World War II, took place on the same dates, 2-years apart:
Battle of Midway, June 4-7, 1942
OP Overlord, better known as D-Day, June 6, 1944

While D-Day gets an immense amount of press, being able actually visit the sites and locations of the landings, sears the impressions into the visitor, whereas Midway was a battle fought over the water, around an island in the Pacific, that is largely closed to the public.

As the attack guys say, if you want to be a celebrity/star, be a fighter pilot; if you want to make history be a bomber pilot.
Wade McCluskey, Dick Best and many others, made history, meanwhile Fletcher perhaps sowed the seeds of doubt amongst fellow admirals. I'll have to pick this book up.

The best book on the Battle of Midway ( that I have read ) is "Shattered Sword". It is highly recommended.

Its historical-fiction, written by a Navy fighter pilot so, the perspective and details aboard an aircraft carrier will be more pronounced than a career writer.
