My grandmother (father’s mother) had tuberculosis and went into the hospital when my father was in 2nd grade. She remained in the hospital until he was in 8th grade. This would have been during the 1950s. As a child in the 1970s I saw no ill affects from her time with the disease. She went on to live into her 80s. I can see if I can find out more information from my father if that could help in any way. _________________________ "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile - hoping it will eat him last” - Winston Churchil

I haven't known anyone with the specific lung diseases you referenced. My wife was diagnosed with IPF (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis) in 2015, there was no cure but steroids and a couple other drugs slowed it. She made the best of her remaining time but passed January 2 2019, one day after her 70th birthday. I so miss her and think of her every single day. I'm still amazed how strong she was in dealing with this horrible lung disease. No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

My wife's brother got Mycobacteria Tuberculosis when he was in the Army, stationed in Korea in the early 1970's. He was treated for a couple years as I recall and was cured. He's 74 now. Mycobacteria (leprosy is also caused by one of them) are very slow growing bacteria which makes them difficult to treat, but they are treatable. Usually multiple, powerful antibiotics are used over a long period. "If Gun Control worked, Chicago would look like Mayberry, not Thunderdome" - Cam Edwards
